Anybody ever think about writing a book?

I've always wanted to, but everything I come up with just does'nt seem good enough in my own eyes.

DateDoc 08-01-2005 12:33 PM

You will always be your own worst critic. Write it down and have a few other people read it and see what they think.

DamageX 08-01-2005 12:34 PM

Wrote some short stories back when I was a kid. Wrote some poetry as well. Then I stopped feeling miserable and no longer felt the need to write.

On another note, I have been considering writing some sort of eBook on growing sites, but I just don't get to have enough time for it. Besides, I'd probably sell 5-6, then people would trade them on P2P anyway, so it's not worth the effort. :1orglaugh

In a few years you will remember me when the The Tripoli Prophecy is published :pimp

Machete_ 08-01-2005 12:46 PM

pr0 wanted me to write a SEO E-book

Some how that request pissed me off, and now I thing he is a dick

luv$ 08-01-2005 12:49 PM

btw, I originally meant a novel - but yeah, business books too.

I just feel like if I am goign to sit down and put soi much of myself into it, I have to love the story/characters.

Pussyman - have you been writing it? If so - how many pages a day, and did you have it all mapped out before starting?

mrthumbs 08-01-2005 12:51 PM

Dude.. im hitting you up on icq in 10 minutes. I have JUST what you need. Youll have your book in stores next august. I need a little consultancy fee to set things up for you.. done it many times.. about 9k.. but youll make that back within a month after publication.

The Dawg 08-01-2005 12:51 PM

I have an idea for a movie & book that should do well (when I get around to it). :1orglaugh

Nydahl 08-01-2005 12:53 PM

I already started once - end up on 2nd page.
Just try and you will see its not easy to put a few words together

chase 08-01-2005 12:53 PM

I've got a notebook full of ideas for a novel, but no time for a labor of love right now..I'm got kids to feed. :)

SilverTab 08-01-2005 12:57 PM

yup...I think about it often...but whenever I come up with an idea, I usually end up thinking...mmm I'll never be able to write a couple of hundred pages with that...

Sarah_Jayne 08-01-2005 01:07 PM

I have been writing one for the past two years. I had to stop for a while because of life issues but I am back at it again. So hopefully sometime before I die it will be published.

RRRED 08-01-2005 01:09 PM

I've been seriously thinking about this for several months. Kind of a twisted love story, industry biography, self discovery mix... But I think I'd need help editting or even co writing. Not sure how that would work.

It would be marketted as fiction however it wouldn't be :) I gotta talk to a lawyer about that part of things though so I wouldn't get into any trouble. Shouldn't be an issue if you change names of characters, etc. I dunno though.

Tala 08-01-2005 01:18 PM

Yes indeed. Have two in the works at the moment. :)

.. it would be a thriller/drama

hire Alec Baldwin to play the evil X when it becomes a movie

mine is non-fiction and required a LOT of research..when I sit down I try to make myself write atleast 1000 words a day. The problem I am having is getting time to myself to do that but I have started to demand it. I am a frustrated writer and I won't be happy with life until it is done.

RuthB 08-01-2005 02:43 PM

I've been writing for years - mostly poetry and short stories, then I got into erotica and that's been fun, though I haven't had as much time as I'd wanted to work on my writing these days.

As for a novel, I've started many but end up finding my storylines are too weak, I'm not quite 'sure' where it's going and so I kind of trail off in the middle of nowhere looking around saying.. 'how the hell did I get here, and where the hell am I going?!'.. so it just hasn't worked out yet :winkwink:

I think it's a good idea to have at least an overall storyline to follow.. map out a general 'first section - middle section - end section' and then I've found it helps to focus by breaking down into chapters..

then again, I've never successfully completed a novel, so who knows if this is a good way or not! :1orglaugh

tristan_D 08-01-2005 05:23 PM

Is it a children's book or a romance novel?

bbe 08-01-2005 08:26 PM

There are three rules for writing the novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.
W. Somerset Maugham

Holly 08-01-2005 08:33 PM

I've always written short stories and poetry, as well. Writing a book has always been on the "things I wanna do before I die" list.

Mike Okitch 08-01-2005 08:38 PM

Don't miss my book "A complete guide to beating procrastination".

In stores....eventually

sniperwolf 08-01-2005 08:40 PM

not really after a book.. man that'll be alot of pages.. back then I used to write some poems and corny stuff..actually, good for the soul!

Missy 08-01-2005 08:44 PM

I've always wanted to write at least one book before I die. I only recently started on my first. Although I would love to see it published someday, I will be happy if I can just complete it to my satisfaction.

I often wonder how many finished novels never make it into print. Anybody know?

angel_x3ws 08-01-2005 08:52 PM

I have written 1 or 2 short stories when I was younger... and I have written lots of poems.. but right now, I have no time to do it...although I have these great story in my mind..but have no time to put it into words.. and it is not easy coming up with a novel... Anyway, I am actually kinda intrigued in the erotica genre and I am thinking of writing one but I do not know if I have enough experience to be actually writing those things..

azguy 08-01-2005 08:56 PM

My ADD will never let me get to page 3.

sadly a small percentage but unless you try it will never happen and a writer needs to write regardless.

xclusive 08-01-2005 11:06 PM

I'm actually working on one it's about 2k pages and I need to cut that way back of course but I tend to ramble on and then edit later. Help me get all my ideas out.

PixeLs 08-01-2005 11:13 PM

I think I have a quite wild imagination but I guess it's not enough for me to become a successful writer- or just a writer.

reed_4 08-01-2005 11:32 PM

writing a book would be a good idea. i really wanted to write a sc-fi story.
