I think lightning stroke down right in front of me yesterday [VIDEO]

Not 100% sure.. could too be some of mirroring in the rain/camera lense or something.. but it sure was a close one

Looks like you had a 'positive streamer' come up in front of you. You're lucky that wasn't the actual discharge path... you might not be seeing or hearing too good if it were.

The strike hit close by, though. Look around and see if you can find any sand that's been turned into glass, or little black 'burrow holes' where the soil has been glassified due to the current.

Too close for comfort, either way. :winkwink:

It seems that you did see it and widened the lens when that lightning hit - maybe you reacted to the thunder though?

hehehe Anyhow, I love thunderstorms!

DutchTeenCash 08-01-2005 11:29 AM

That would scare the living shit out of me

crockett 08-01-2005 07:39 PM

Damn that was pretty close.. It's pretty wild that you caught it on film.

I used to do install work for broad band cable internet.. One day I was up on a poll trying to finish up a job before this storm hit..

I saw lighting hit about five miles away from me, and almost the same time I got a shock and actually saw electricity come off the main line and shock my thumb.

Needless to say that was the last time I ever went up on a telephone poll with lighting anywhere remotely close..

Shooting_Manic 08-01-2005 08:08 PM

I seen it very clear and the thunder was right on top of the lightening strike. Thats an amazing shot man... I would send that to your local new station or weather people... I streamer from the main strike was just a couple feet from you.

Nice dude... good thing you are here to tell about it.

:thumbsup

Don't worry lightning only strikes once in one place, though you'll certainly be fried once it hits you.. :winkwink:

SmokeyTheBear 08-02-2005 12:01 AM

I think it was partly a reflection from the screen door on the right..

If you view it frame by frame ther is a strike in the middle upper right corner first then ones just above the fence but even in slow-mo its much later than the one above it , but a split second later we see fourth and fifth frame of it ( almost looking upside down ? ) on the lower part of the fence ( as it would be hitting the ground ) the strike if its not a reflection is clearly in front of the fence.

SmokeyTheBear 08-02-2005 12:09 AM

this is also strange , these are in order and the last picture shows an almost repeat of the first one , but after the lowest one its then higher again..

I live in an area with 90% vacation houses, thats one of the lousy ones :) I live in one myself, but not as trailer park'ish as that one - and we're right now waiting to move to our "new" house.
