How I spent $11,000 USD this weekend

I had to go shopping for new stuff for my new house, here's what I came out with....found some great warehouses / distributors who offer 30-40% of the prices stores here sell stuff for (since they sell to those stores) :)

- Leather office chair
- Frigidaire Stainless Steel 21 CU fridge
- Akai 55" Widescreen Projection TV (HD-ready)
- Pioneer Wireless Home Theater System
- Magic Chef Stainless Steel microwave
- Some italian 15 pcs cookware set
- Powerhouse bench machine and full weight/bar set
- Medieval-style dark wood bar/cabinet
- Medieval-style dark wood/glass dining room table + chairs
- 2-person reclining comfy chairs with drink holders
- 3-person high-quality sofa (forgot the material name, but it was damn nice)
- Medieval-style dark wood frame/headboard/mattress (master bedroom)
- Frigidaire washer (27 lbs capacity) and dryer
- Atlas black vitroceramic glass oven/stove

All the above, about $6500

1988 Jeep Wrangler in great condition/shape, raised with larger wheels

$4000

Fixups on small things like broken door handle, ripped seat, etc....

$500

This is how I spent $11,000 USD this weekend :thumbsup

As for the Wrangler, we took it up into the mountains (almost to the Volcano altitude) last night to test it out, on what you could barely call roads. It performed GREAT, only having starter troubles once on a HEAVY incline filled with rocks (where if we had rolled back another 2 feet we would have fallen off the mountain :Oh crap )

Let's just say driving up in the clouds, on non-roads, in darkness, is very very dangerous. We almost hit an owl at one point too.....but it was a great test on the vehicle :winkwink:

So, how were your weekends ??

I played some live poker Friday night, $1/2 No-Limit......put in $200, after about an hour and a half or so came away with $633. Not too bad :winkwink:

Actually I've no played there 4 Friday nights in a row, usually for just 1-2 hours, and overall I've won about $1200 (or $300 average each visit) profit.

Actually I wasn't dirving it, it was the guy I'm buying it from. He wanted to prove how it drives and what it can handle..

Varius 07-31-2005 02:39 PM

Oh for pics, I'll take some soon as I buy a decent digital cam (likely at Internext)...and as soon as all that stuff gets delivered :)

I just spent $8000 on appliances, furniture and guns in Costa myself.

You gonna come shooting up in the mountains with us when I get there?

High Plains Drifter 07-31-2005 02:41 PM

Sounds like money well spent. I have found memories of sitting in the hot streams at the base of the volcanos and watching them erupt at night.

fuzebox 07-31-2005 02:41 PM

Let's see pics of the Jeep :thumbsup

I miss mine so much, going to pick up another this fall :)

Why 07-31-2005 02:42 PM

should have gotten a jeep rubicon.

and i still cant believe you spent so much decorating in a 3rd world country.

Sure thing :thumbsup

BTW If you buy any other stuff, I recommend getting it from Sarchi or Cartago...much cheaper prices. Golfito is definately cheapest of all, but is like a 6 hour drive (and they have no catalogs or website hehe)

I'm still not sure why people think Costa Rica is a 3rd world country....it's more like 2nd world :)

Besides, this is my first real house, first car...why wouldn't I spend the money on it?

I've blown my cash on partying for the past 6-7 years or so, now it's time to start investing it into possessions not just alcohol :2 cents:

Do you know what a Chorizzo is? Like the sausage. It's a guy that operates in the "grey area" of importing in Costa Rica. I can get pretty much anything you want without the huge duty and taxes. My Dell Monitors cost only $200 to clear through customs, as opposed to the $1500 they normally would have been. Anyway, I get most of my stuff through him.

brand0n 07-31-2005 02:50 PM

ive pretty much got everything you listed, in diff versions

That's kind of similar to the contact we have with Golfito.....you just give him model numbers and he gives you a price.

We almost hit a SNOWY owl once. :Oh crap That would have been awful. Since we didn't though, it turned out to be a great experience because we got to see one from 3 feet away (it just skimmed over the windshield).

JuiceMonkey 07-31-2005 03:32 PM

it seems like you got all that shit cheaply..

Adulter 07-31-2005 05:10 PM

Yeah, I was there. I'm born and raised in Montreal, so I normally go back atleast two weeks a year to visit friends and family.

Normally I fly Costa Rica -> Miami -> Montreal route, but that show I had to go Costa Rica -> Miami -> Atlanta -> Montreal so it took me forever :disgust

iwantchixx 07-31-2005 06:50 PM

nice little shopping spree there :)

The cam I want, as recommended by many on this board, I haven't been able to find in Costa Rica :(

It's a Canon, they only seem to have some Kodak or Sony models down here.

I'm hoping to pick it up next week in Florida though, then I'll have pics of everything :winkwink:

Basic_man 07-31-2005 08:09 PM

God dammit, good way to spend 11,000$ ! :D

Damn, that road is really nice and clean compared to where we were....and a lot less steep :)

Hopefully I'll be able to get some pics next time if I'm ever up there again.
