We don't need to "shut down" the border crossing, we need to shut down the open real estate.

Open wide the damned borders and stop trying to run the world. Terrorists don't need to come to Mexico in order to get to the US, they've manage to get to the US directly in the past. They've lived there, worked there, trained there, all unnoticed.

They'd be so stupid to go through two check points instead of just one, come on, just think about it for a second. We do have immigration police too, in case you didn't know. And than they'd have to risk their lives going through the desert, come on, don't believe all the hype your politicians are trying to sell you.
