San Jose Grand Prix This Weekend (Photos)
The 1st San Jose Grand Prix started yesterday, although race-related activities started earlier in the week (concert by the B52's, etc.) - so I thought I would share some photos I took with you folks:
The main event cars are Champ style racing machines: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00004.jpg There are several other classes of cars that will be racing as well (Trans-Atlantic, Grand Tour, plus historic cars and drifting): http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00001.jpg Of course there are lots of babes...these girls are among the contestants for the Miss San Jose Grand Prix title: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00007.jpg There are lots of exhibits of cars...old and new: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00010.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00012.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00013.jpg Did I mention the babes? http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00014.jpg ...to be continued... |
The races actually take place right on the streets of downtown:

Did you know Max Hardcore is a racing fan? http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00041.jpg The races contine Saturday and culminate with the Grand Prix on Sunday (it will be televised in many countries): http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00036.jpg Well, I'm heading back out to the races... I cant get to our office... they got all the streets closed.
|
I was recently at the first Grand Prix of Edmonton a couple of weeks ago and it rocked.
The attendance was over 210,000 over the 3 days. But i do love it on the streets rather than a road course. |

Day Two at the San Jose Grand Prix was better than the first, since the drivers are now more familiar with the new road racing track, and because some competitive races took place today.
The Champ cars did there qualifying... http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00042.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00043.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00044.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00045.jpg The Champ Cars will be racing in the San Jose Grand Prix tomorrow (Sunday). After all of that racing, it's nice to relax with a nice tall cool one... http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00046.jpg ADG Webmaster |
About to head out for day 3...Grand Prix Day, and the feature race for both the Trans-Atlantic cars and the Champ cars...the GT Finals were run Saturday:
http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00047.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00048.jpg I got a kick out of the Historic cars, which featured cars driven by former legends (and a few old cars driven by some still current top racers): http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00049.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00052.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00051.jpg ...and of course there were plenty of pretties in checkered flag outfits too: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00053.jpg Gentlemen start your engines... The day of the big race...finally. The weather was excellent all weekend (90 degrees plus) and everyone was ready for the first ever San Jose Grand Prix.
First up were the Trans-Atlantic cars: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00054.jpg http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00055.jpg The race was won by Katherine Legge - this has been a big year in motor sports for women. Then it was time for the big boys in their 750hp Champ cars to take the track: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00056.jpg The action was fast and furious: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00057.jpg From start to finish it was a real duel between Sebastien Bourdais and Paul Tracy: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00058.jpg In the end, series leader Sebastien Bourdais (who has won 11 of 21 starts) prevailed again for Paul Newman's racing team: http://www.asiandivagirls.com/Tour/t...1/adg00059.jpg It was a great weekend of racing and partying - I can hardly wait for next year... It was a sweet race. Hopefully for next year they get some of the kinks ironed out. Especially where the cars cross the light rail tracks. That was insane. The Champ cars were literaly airbourne as they went over them. Fun to watch though but I'm sure it sucked to be in the car going over them at 150+.
I liked the orignal course layout they had best that went around the HP Pavillion then headed downtown. City council voted that the race should be entirley downtown. Politicians should learn to listen to people better. |
I totally agree. They need to come up with a solution for the light rail tracks, and also need to widen the course for more passing.
I think going past the Shark Tank (San Jose Arena) is a good idea, then I would go down through San Pedro Square (lots of merchants complained about the amount of business they had for an event that drew 150,000 people - imagine if they ran it right past their windows), then I would run the cars down the wide Santa Clara Street, and finally down market and around Caesar Chavez Park, where you could have practically 360 degrees of grandstands. All in all, it was a great race and I expect it will only get better next year. ADG Webmaster |
Impressive coz the shots are pretty sharp!
|
Nice photos. I love to watch formula 1 racing.
|
I was supposed to go to this race. Was going to get a suite at the Marriot overlooking the str8. That got back burnered and I though I'd make the LeMans in Portland this weekend. Neither happened, fuck fuck fuck.:(
I'm a huge race fan, I even have a signed Michael Schumacher helmet on my desk. I'll catch the SJ GP next year if they do it again. |
goodlooking girls and i love that color of F1 yellow.
|
OMG! that's the place to be! the nicest cars and the nicest ladies. ;)

The only other places to catch such races anywhere close to the Bay Area are down in Monterey at Laguna Seca, and in Sonoma County at the Infinion Raceway (formerly called Sears Point) - Nascar road races there, and next month Indy cars will be running there for the first time. With traffic, it can take a few hours each way, so it's nice having a big race in our backyard. ADG Webmaster |

If you notice the orange cones, the driver's of the other slower classes of cars did not have to go through the chicane. The real speed bumps were the light rail (train) tracks where the Champ cars actually got airborne - hopefully that's something that will be corrected for next year's race, since it took a heavy toll on the cars (and I'm sure the driver's bodies).
