Welcome to the world of "Day Labor".....Where in the office, they have old coffee cans on the floor to serve as ashtrays....Where you have to get to the place EARLY to beat all of the crackheads and other derelects who come in looking to make some money to buy their drugs later....And if you even show up ON TIME, there's a chance that you'll be sent home with no job.

I used to do day labor years ago.....Too bad that they STILL only pay $35 a day cause that's what I made back in the nineties......And don't ride their van to the job or they'll deduct $2 from your check.

I've picked up trash, shoveled horse shit, and plenty of other demeaning jobs where each hour feels like two hours...

It's my only TGP right now... I had about 20 of them doing pretty good... then something happened and all my traffic died... parked them all on tqxxx and tried to build it back up... couldn't do it before my bills ran me over... now I'm fucked

I really want to hold out on that one as long as possible... but I will be asking $200 for it if I have to sell it too...

Damn i remember those days. I would be the first in there 3 hours early to get my name on the list and still would nit get to go out. Yeap they charged
1.50 each way for trasnpo and they had a deal were you could cash your check for a dollar with a little mom and pop store. A full 8 hour day after all fee's for doing a shit job would bring you $30 if you were lucky.


But i did get lucky i nailed a job for a commerical a/c thru day labor. i was there for 8 years before i let them for this thing called the internet.

Man i dont miss those days at all.

I don't get this "Day Labor" thing! Is it some sort of employment agency? In Canada, I beleive the temp agency call you when there is a job available...

"Temp Agencies" in America are places that can get you factory and clerical work and yes, they call you to get you a job but the jobs usually last longer than a day...You also have to pass some kind of test with the agency before they'll get you a job.

But there's the lower end of the spectrum called "Day Labor" which is a temporary agency that deals in the lowest of low jobs...Most of the workers are failures, ex-cons, or drug addicts and most of the jobs are menial jobs that don't require long term commitments to workers. Those jobs you gotta show up for to get hired on the spot and you can show up to work drunk or high if you want as long as you do your job.

Surely you can do something more than manual labor?..I really think if the porn industry died tomorrow 80% of you people would have no clue how to support yourselves.I started working right out of high school 25 years ago when there wasn't any Internet .Right now I have a good job and benefits and my trade is in demand,so I will always find work.I'm not saying working for somebody else is great but people have to realize if you rely on a volatile industry where it can all be gone tomorrow ,you have to be more versatile

That sucks. I can see where you were passing out working in not just the heat but the humidity too. I've done manual labor in the south too and it really sucks. Then I discovered temp. agencies. They'll send you out on office jobs to file papers if nothing else and you get to work in an air conditioned environment. Plus you have a good chance of picking up new skills on those jobs, and you might even get a permanent job. I got the best job I ever had when I was sent out through a temp. agency and the place that I was sent to hired me full time. Just go to a temp. agency. You'll like it alot better.
