It has good protection but only Russians seem to use it so it's pretty useless if you want to do international deals.

some non-russian program owners have to use this to pay their russian affiliates :)

In 3 years I have never had a problem with Paypal. Their security and verification methods have always been excellent. They're even nice enough to call me up when I go outside of my normal spending pattern to ensure it's me using the account. I'm sorry I can't put my trust or money into some foreign e-currency site.
