Are you thrifty?

I'm a big sucker for sales. Tonight I bought 3 sticks of deoderant because it was on sale for $2 and its usually $5, I didn't even need any. I do this all the time, especially with food and groceries. My friend and I were talking about it and he said I was "thrifty", which I guess I am.

I like buying good quality stuff, which typically means expensive. Electronics, clothes, restaurants, entertainment, etc. But I always look for deals, sales, and special offers.

At first I thought I was just being cheap, but thrifty really is a much better word. I get it from my mom. Its actually a pretty good habit I think, its amazing how far $100 can stretch when you really want it to. My $100 goes a LOT further then a few of my friends $100, its unfortunate for them because they don't make what I do. But in turn the bastards get jealous of me for buying nice things, they don't realize that they could buy the exact same things if they just spent their money more wisely.

Anyone else have like this?

whenever i see something i regularly buy on sale, i get it :)

Spunky 07-26-2005 07:57 PM

Yes,for some reason when I go food shopping I'm always comparing prices and buying the sale items..I must have 50 cans of tuna and smoked oysters cause they were on sale..I hardly eat the shit

PixeLs 07-26-2005 08:00 PM

Nope, I am not good at spending; however, my girlfriend knows how to handle her money wisely.

I have 10 cans of tuna left in my cabinet from when they were last on sale for $0.50 opposed to the usual $0.90. When rice is on sale I usually buy between 5 and 10 boxes. Same with pasta.

I never buy stuff I don't like though.

BIGTYMER 07-26-2005 08:02 PM

Only when theres a good deal.

DateDoc 07-26-2005 08:03 PM

Every time I go to the grocery store I am that way. Yesterday I bought 10 cans of Wolf Gang Puck soup because they were 10 for $10.00. I also bought deoderant because it was 2 for $4.00 and a 1.75L bottle of Johnny Walker was $10 off so I got two. :thumbsup

angel_x3ws 07-26-2005 08:05 PM

yeah.. I am like that..I'd rather walk than spend money on public transportation especially if the trip isn't that far.. and I am way too thrifty...i don't like eating in expensive restaurants unless it is for a special occasion

reed_4 07-26-2005 08:05 PM

i admire your character. you are just being wise in buying what you need and not just what you want. yes, i have that character too.

pornguy 07-26-2005 08:07 PM

Some of the richest people I know are the same way. they have great houses, and cars and airplanes and stuff, but will buy something if it is on sale, even though they already have some at home. That way they get the sale price.

sniperwolf 07-26-2005 08:16 PM

I know the budget deficit :Oh crap

tristan_D 07-26-2005 09:09 PM

yes !! I'm a bargain finder and the worst thing is when it comes to clothing and shoes if i see something i like,
i have to buy ALL the colors of the same item unless there is one color that is totall nasty or doesn't suit me . :)

fuzebox 07-26-2005 09:38 PM

Yes, if the products don't matter to me much I'll buy no-name and save the 20 cents. I also do shit like compare 6 x 90 paper towels at $3.50 to 4x100 paper towels at $3.10

beemk 07-26-2005 09:42 PM

i'm the same way, when i go grocery shopping i buy whats on sale and what i absolutely need. if its on sale and lasts a long time and i really like it i will stock up. i wont buy low quality stuff to save money though.

I'm cheap :)

quiet 07-26-2005 09:47 PM

i'm surrounded by bargin hunters, but i've never been into it, even when i was po'.

nekrom 07-26-2005 10:06 PM

Yupo I'm exactly the same.

I always bulk buy when items are on sale at the supermarket/shops.

Always turn electronic devices off at the wall instead of leaving them on standbuy(saves 20% off the elec bill)

Pay bills on time including cc's so I don't get slugged with the high interest charges.

And I always shop around to find an item at its cheapest, including asking the stores if they slash ticket price for cash purchases, most do (Electronics and stuff)

That's not being thrifty, it's being a girl.

As for the topic, I'm much more thrifty now than I was 5 or 6 years ago. Oh the money I've fucking wasted!

eroswebmaster 07-26-2005 10:13 PM

A friend of mine's stepdad was the Texas millionaire T. Cullen Davis who was brought up on murder charges back in the 70's...he was the original OJ LOL
Anyway, I went over to spend the night one time and it was the first time I met Cullen and he was wearing cut off jean shorts and a pair of tennis shoes that my dad wouldn't have let us wear...those things were raggedy.

From what I understand he was like that about a lot of stuff...sure he bought nice suits to wear to work and functions..but in general he was not "thrifty" but cheap.

woj 07-26-2005 11:09 PM

I'm thrifty with limits, when I can get the same stuff cheaper, sure I'll go for it... but I don't clip coupons or spend 2 hours driving around town so I can save $10 on something...

Vitasoy 07-27-2005 12:17 AM

I sure am. I alway looking for sales, and whenever theres a really good one... I stock up.

Pim(P) 07-27-2005 12:24 AM

In supermarkets I don't really look at the prices and just buy what I like. The more expensive stuff like shoes, electronics I try to get as cheap as possible.

je_rome 07-27-2005 12:25 AM

i wish i am.. i'm an impulsive buyer when i have money..
