Chicago/New York Vacations?

Hey all, I want to take my wife on a nice weekend vacation to either Chicago or New York. Being that we have never been to either of these places I was curious what you guys could tell me about either of these. Like where to fly into so that we can take a cab to where we want to go or be within walking distance of attractions.

We are not huge partiers but we do enjoy the bar scene, we are more hang out, go to the spa, eat a nice dinner, walk around, romantic type of stuff though.

I am just not sure what the distances are between airports and hotels, if there are shuttles, how rough the traffic is, best areas to go , best airports to fly into etc. Any info you can provide would be great.

I've never been to New York but Chicago is one of my favorite cities.

O'Hare is always a huge pain in the ass though. They always overbook incoming flights so there's usually a congestion problem, meaning delays. It happened to me just 3 days ago and happens every time I fly through there.

In Chicago I always like going to Wrigley Field. Something about that place is just awesome. Such a great vibe.

Boat rides on Lake Michigan are fun, would probably feel great on a hot day.

The science Museum and Shedd Aquarium are pretty cool. The Aquarium is the biggest in the United States I believe.

Brookfield Zoo is great, IMO. I like it better then the famed San Diego zoo.

The Navy Pier may interest you. The Sears Tower.

I haven't been there since I turned 21, so I really don't know what else is worth checking out.

I have been too both cities. I enjoyed Chicago alot more. We went to Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier, Grant Park, Millenium Mark, walked up/down Michigan Ave. Took a boat ride through downtown and learned about the streets/bridges/buildings etc. We stayed at the Palmer House Hilton which was pretty damn nice I thought. We got onto the subway just around the corner so it was very easy to get around.

OK sounds like Chicago is the way to go, hard to get to/from the airport? What area downtown is the best to be close to the areas we want to visit? Shedd Aquarium etc? Expensive cab rides? Easy to get on the subway? Are there shuttles from the hotel to any of these places?

Thanks,
Andy

be prepared to drive at 110 mph, which is the average speed limit on the city highways.

heh well I drove into downtown and it sucked. Of course getting in there at 4:30 didn't help either. I would try to stay along Michigan Ave downtown. Anywhere downtown and you will have a great time. The aquarium was about a $7-8 cab ride from out hotel at the Palmer House Hilton on State St/Monroe St. I would try to stay farther up north though, there is a nice Westin hotel up that way.
