Last night I had a Persian dinner...

I have a friend who's family is from Iran. My friends sister was in town visiting so her family through a big dinner party. Aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends, the whole shabang. Probably about 30-35 people were there for dinner, all Persian.

I have never felt so out of place in my life, lol. It wasn't because I'm white, it was because everyone was speaking Farci (sp?) but me. A third of the people there didn't know English, including the little kids.

Anyway, we had chafron (sp?) chicken and chafron (again, sp?) rice and holy shit was that good. There were these little berries in the rice that were sort of bitter, they were very tasty.

I grew up on meat and potatoes but lately have been trying all sorts of new stuff. All VERY good, but nothing beats my meat and 'taters. :-)

Nothing beats your meat? :winkwink:

Sounds like you are talking about saffron chicken. Good stuff! :thumbsup

After Shock Media 07-25-2005 04:16 PM

Saffron is the word you were attempting.

Goos for you....the Persian restaurant we went in Amsterdam wasn't that good. I like Persian food, but only if it's prepared by natives FOR the natives,
like yours was.

I've never tasted zebra. Any good?

Depends on if you get the white or the black meat.

Hmm its the center of the spice world so that means litterally any berry.
Could be juniper, cappers, funegreek (thats sweet though), or many others.

The berries are called 'zereshk' in Persian. The only place I know where they actually get harvested is from small bushes in the mountainous regions of Iran. Been there...

Persian food is very well prepared, and relies on quality of food over overdone spices and sauces to mask bad quality (ie. Chinese Food).

its somewhat of an aquired taste... it will be okay the first time... and then second time will be a bit better, then in a couple days or so you'll start to crave it... :thumbsup

PixeLs 07-25-2005 08:20 PM
