bad timing, CNN said riots are starting there in connection to the President's rigging of the last elections

Stacey_JoinRightNow 07-25-2005 03:46 AM

There's a political war here in Philippines between the administration and the anti-government... Rallies are huge in Manila!

polish_aristocrat 07-25-2005 03:47 AM

Another exagerrated report from CNN. Since PH is a democratic country, people
can go to streets and voice out their freedom of speech. Everyday, you get to
see lots of protesters but in general, mostly peoply rallies.

:smokin

Axzar 07-25-2005 08:41 AM

Hit me up, I have been here for 9 months. I feel safe here. They are rallies, not riots.

Lots of hookers.
Lots of horny "real" girls, too!

What company are you coming out with?

Axzar 07-25-2005 08:45 AM

Oh yea... beer is 40 cents a bottle in the 7-11, smokes 75 cents, a 1 hour taxi ride.. $3!

i would say the system sucks, now the president is pushing for a Federal Parliamentary form of government.

Greg MissionD 07-25-2005 09:56 AM

There are lots of people from the biz here.

faxxaff 07-25-2005 10:03 AM

The rallies are not so bad. But it is hot, humid and extremely D I R T Y. One of the worst cities in regards of pollution. An hour outside and your white collar turn black. Smoking is more healthy then breathing fresh air in Manila.

Oh, forgot to mention: the food sucks!

coding_bug 07-25-2005 10:04 AM

its very much fun fun fun.. :)

WhoGivesaShit 07-25-2005 10:08 AM

Socrates 07-25-2005 01:54 PM

for once, we agree on something.. I dunno what good will a federal system do to our country.. but right now things here are tough with the politics and inflation. but nevertheless i still love my country and wouldn't exchange it for anything in the world..

I was more of like wondering.. what good will it do.. even if they change the system of government if the government will be run by the same corrupt officials.. i think it is pointless.. what needs to be done is to really flush out the corrupt officials of the government.. which i think is near to impossible.. hehehe..

tristan_D 07-25-2005 04:45 PM

well I heard there's too much political unrest there. I think its not on the kind of leader or the type of system, but on the citizens themselves

bigdog 07-25-2005 04:49 PM

if none of these foreign countries had cheap hookers, would it be even worth it to live in some of these places

The last time I was there the traffic cops carried machine guns - never did try to pay them anything :) But then the taxis were the way to go

nico-t 07-25-2005 06:04 PM

what is it with manilla, its like a porn magnet :1orglaugh

TheSaint 07-25-2005 07:52 PM

Philippines is really fucked up country, sad. Its the new headquarters for "YuMama Bin Laden" and has a large muslum population in the remote areas that will kidnap you and cut off your head.

Everything is corrupt and fucked up, especially for westerners. A friend of mine put up a bar in Manilla. He was there for 12 months before he found out the bill he was paying for electric each month was actually illegal current ripped off from a nearby business and sold to him by the local mobsters. :1orglaugh When eventually the real electric company found out he had to pay off a bunch of new people.

On a bright note, the women are awesome. Not the man hating hookers in the bars, but your average real filipino girl that works in a factory or a hospital, its like the matrix, no one can be told about Filipino girls you have to experience it for yourself. :2 cents:

So sad.. that your friend was duped.. things are really shitty right here that people are turning into scammers..nweiz, about the filipino girls..you're right about that... of course i am also referring those who are not hookers.. and as for the muslim area of our country..right now there has been a ceasefire between governments and muslim groups.. so it is no longer as violent as it was years before..but the armed forces are doing their best to weed out the extremist groups who do all the kidnapping.. heheh or so i think... lol..

webcrawler 07-25-2005 08:24 PM

The Philippines has suffered political instability for decades now. So those rallies and protests have been adapted as normal situations already. Not much of a problem here.

Where do you plan to stay?

our present govt. system has been adapted to that of the US. Sad to say, Filipinos aren't matured enough to handle this. :(

Socrates 07-25-2005 08:42 PM

I am half muslim anyways, if it ever comes down to it, i will tell them my muslim name and they will let me go, lol

Dugmor 07-25-2005 08:49 PM

Polluted and the worst traffic in the world. The public transportation ( Jeepney Drivers ) are on strike to make it even worse.

It is good for a week ..... but after that there is nothing else to do than go to the mall !

The nearest beach is 2 hour drive and a 1 hour boat ride or flying which is a 3 hour chore in itself !

Do what ever you can to get moved somewhere else .... Manila is not a good quality of life. Not as cheap as every says unless you are living like the general population. Very easy to find yourself in a very very poor neighborhood.

But the food is great and it is true the beer is cheap if you do not mind drinking with the locals.

well..some pieces of advice.. just don't stay out too late at night unless you have with you a trusty companion... beware of pickpockets... if you are gonna stay in manila..then you'll probably be safe from the muslim extremists..probably.. and treat the locals with respect the same way you would like to be treated.. coz the locals are really good and hospitable so long as you don't get into fights with them.. usually we are harmless that is if you live in a typical middle class area.. one thing we hate most are arrogant and pompous foreigners who come barging into our country treating our locals like some piece of shit.. but if you are nice then you would be treated nicely.. good luck and be careful on your stay here in the philippines..

Gottis 07-25-2005 09:35 PM

So basically you're all saying it sucks and don't go there, you might die.

Socrates: Quit your job
