Burton & Depp make just about the most perfect filmaking team on earth.

xNetworx 07-24-2005 05:06 PM

It was pretty to look at but Depp's performance was suspect.

Pimpporn was correct in my opinion.
Although I generally love Depps performances in films and I also love Burton, this time they did not pull it off. Burton did a fairly good job visually and stuck to the story/book fairly well, he is what pulled this movie off. Depp on the other hand fell short. I commend him for not trying to redo Gene's portrayal, what he came up with was freakish at best and is gender suspect throughout. He started out creepy, stayed creepy, and remained creepy to the end. Nowhere could I really spot what I always saw as Wonka's personality.

gender suspect?

well atleast his sexuality wasn't suspect, did you see the pink sheep?

Rochard 07-24-2005 09:46 PM

Or, the movie was really gay.....

smack 07-24-2005 09:47 PM

i gotta get out and see that. i am a little skepticle from the previews i saw, but johnny depp hasn't made a bad movie for quite some time.

Bansheelinks 07-24-2005 09:51 PM

I liked it. Did I love it? No. Was it as good as some of Burton's classics from the past, such as Beetlejuice? Not a chance. But it was good.

Babagirls 07-24-2005 09:56 PM

ehh..depp looks hella creepy in this movie, the posterboard ad for the movie scared me, i dont wanna watch 2 hours of it lol :Oh crap

SomeCreep 07-24-2005 09:58 PM

Tim 07-25-2005 09:03 AM

I like the original - apart from the musical aspect. I don't like musicals.

I presume the new one is not a musical.

HarrytheNazi 07-25-2005 09:04 AM
