LCD Flat Sceen Monitors, are they good now for gaming?
I want to buy a flat screen monitor but heard a couple of months ago on TechTV that they are not that good when it comes to games. Was it true?
|
I think that you're safe to buy an LCD IF you choose the right model. I myself have a Viewsonic VP201B which has a 16ms response time. I've never noticed any problems with ghosting while gaming and I do a lot of gaming.
They now have monitors out with 4 and 8ms response times. I think that if you go with one of those, you'll DEFINATELY be doing good :) |
Anything under 16ms and you should be good, ghosting really isnt an issue with todays monitors. I'm using a 16ms 17", and a 19" 8ms. Can't really tell the difference when playing on either monitor.

YARGH! I have both a 20" Sony, and a 20" Dell. Both be excellent for gaming. I think with a newer model you'd be fine. |
i just got a flat screen lcd about two weeks ago, while i have no specifically played any games on my computer i can say that they do make everything else better.
i don't get blurry vision, or headaches after sitting here for hours, and everything looks much mroe vibrant. |
I purchased a 8ms benq on the weekend since i game abit, loving it!
|
12 ms here and it works very well playing CS.
|
just make sure the response is ~15ms or lower and you will be fine. I also have the viewsonic 20.1 and it works great.

They say under 15ms is what you need, but a couple of mine that are over that slightly look great.
The new Sonys are at 8ms and have that cool glossy high contrast screen and are very bright as well. |
The BenQ lcd's seem to be the best specced as far as response time.
|
i just upgraded to lcd
the acer al1715 and its great for gaming |
just look for some reviews. youll be fine if you do a little research
|
I've used a Samsung 240T (24" LCD, 1920x1200 rez) since ARS sent it to me in 2001, and I play about an hour of fast-paced first person shooters each day. No problems, no ghosting, no nothing, despite a relative high response time of 25ms.
I'll never go back to CRT. |
I bought that Dell Ultra Sharp 19 inch with 8ms response time and it's fine by me for gaming. However everyone has a different sensitivity to them, so what may be ok for some may suck for others.
|
You may notice it a little, but only if you are looking for it.
When I switched from my CRT I was worried about it too, but seriously, after I did my "comparison" I haven't actually noticed the ghosting since. |
I'm using a Dell 15 inch lcd at the moment and I can't notice the difference with crt.
|
newer models you should be ok.

Sony SDM-HS95P(b) :thumbsup
great monitor (for gaming also), but even this model by all test with the best graphic display, isn't even close to my old Viewsonic P95f. It is funny, you can't see big difference in gaming or movies, but when you open PS and start to work on pictures, you can see BIG difference... I'm big fan of ViewSonic, so I first got VP191b, with 8ms "response time"... Actually this monitor have full response time around 22ms... Plus I was been very dissapointed with his display as well, so I got Sony. Of course if you are used on Acer, BenQ or LG, my reasons for dissapointment will be funny for you... Don't trust in marketing response time, read tests or if you can test it by yourself... Response time is only one of things, look at contrast rate, and DVI! |
I bought a ViewSonic VP201b, its fucking great for gaming.
|
Dude there is only one top of the line LCD monitor out there. The Viewsonic VX924.
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/de...xseries/vx924/ It has the fastest response time out there (4ms) and its only $400-500. Great overall monitor. |
Should be fine, as long as you get one with low respose time... The one that infecto posted is sweet.
|
Thanks for the info guys, I bought a 19" NEC and I love it so far.
