Downside to making your domain private?

What are the negatives to making your domain(s) private? Other than the TGPs like Shemp for instance not allowing it.... what are the downsides? Anything? Doesn't affect SE does it?

Yes it does effect the SE work.

Google likes to know the WHOIS info for your domain so it knows who it is indexing.

If Google checked who-is on sites at least 30% wouldn't get indexed.

The only reason i say 'interesting' is because when Google filed for their patents a few months back they said...
