What you expect from an SEO company

Thinking of giving this a shot, just wondering what people expect so I would know exactly what needs to get done. Got a round about idea, just looking for some input mostly.

Request they send you a list of deliverables & bids on the job. Then compare and contrast what you get for your money between the bids.

Getting a big chunk of your target keywords in the top 20 would be great.

#1 for "I'd like to spend $10,000, pronto!!".

suesheboy 07-23-2005 11:01 AM

Doing white hat not black hat techniques.

Results in under 5 months.

Not linking to bad neighborhoods.

Recomendations and then go to erh waybahk machine and then call the references.

thewebgarage 07-23-2005 11:03 AM

References and good communication. Very important for any business and it lacks on the web.

thaifan99 07-23-2005 11:04 AM

Amen. And make sure they don't put your links across link farms, buying links, etc. Check the refs sites and links - lookout for suspicious backlinks, cloaking, etc. (though cloaking is hard to spot if done right)

Remember, if they set up a link building strategy for you check out the ongoing costs. If down the road you don't like the service, all those links will get pulled - kind of a good way to keep clients around for them!

Of course I wouldnt pay for SEO but then thats just me - I think they are all a rip and the same info can be learned for free. The only part that might be worth outsourcing is the actual page and link building if you dont have a lot of time

100% correct.

Cant believe I didn't say that.

When I was outsourcing SEO most failed that simeple test.

Mako 07-23-2005 08:48 PM

Results.

Which if someone knows how to get via SEO, they don't sell to others as there's no need.

There is no such thing as an SEO company "worth their salt". If they're any good, they don't take new clients, and don't really NEED clients at all (Hi WiredGuy).

CheneyRumsfeld 07-23-2005 08:56 PM

the P/R of their own website more than pr2 or pr3.
I have seen that on this board all the while telling everyone that they will get you pr 9 or pr10 in no time.
bullshit.
