How far back can you chargeback?
I had to chargeback a charge on my canadian visa and the lady told me 75 days was the maximum. I was sure it was 6 months. What's the deal? Did she lie? or have our processors been pushing some chargebacks that weren't chargebacks?

6 months seem about right from what I have seen including non adult.

Great question, I think they've been getting tougher on them recently Shap.
I remember 2 years ago I charged something back 4 months after it had happened and it was pretty easy. (My bank Debit card) calls me once a month to ask me if I really did buy all those things and i just confirm it and that's it. They always ask "are you sure this option will expire after 30 days from the date of transaction" Someone once told me you can chargeback a check 7 years after it is written. is taht true? |
According to the bank, once a check has been cashed you cannot charge it back. And even 2 years ago, MBNA wouldn't let me charge back a fraudulent charge after 60 days. Which is why I can't understand how all these people can do a chargeback even after 12 to 18 months on their credit card and 3 to 6 months later on their online checks. It boggles the mind.

It depends on the bank and the type of transaction. Something recurring without a signature -- especially in the high risk range -- has totally different rules than something you signed for on delivery or a swipe transaction.

It depends on the agreed merchant account..
We have been told flat out that we could not CB and got hung up on. We called the bank and visa, both put us through to the company we had problems with and the company just said no. |
