pr0 07-22-2005 01:34 PM

did the NHL finally solve their little rich boy bitch fest & get a deal done?

NaughtyRob 07-22-2005 01:34 PM

Go Pens!
:thumbsup

Rinaldo 07-22-2005 01:34 PM

You know what... fuck both sports :thumbsup

rickholio 07-22-2005 01:43 PM

Crosby is going to have an awesome player in Lemieux to study under and perfect his craft. The penguins are going to have the latest star to once again give them a shot to propell them to greatness, and if it works hockey is going to have a new legend. Good for hockey all around... although I wish Crosby had gotten his wish and got to play for the Habs. :winkwink:

Pitts is gonna have to build something solid to house the Pens now tho. Maybe Crosby's star power can encourage some of the bean counters to loosen up the purse strings.

Yup. And last year was pretty much a waste - literally.

Pitt could actually be one of those worst to first teams. I'm actually looking forward to the NHL now.

Or he'll tear an ACL or an MCL or he'll shatter his spine or he'll get arrested for raping a chick...
that's a lot to say about someone before they even play once.

My sperm will one day be the president of the United States too.

Tiger and Lebron seem to be holding up to the hype.

Tiger yes but even his knee gave out and he had a shitty 2 years.

Lebron has a looooong way to go till he's anything close to what Michael was. No one can be as big as MJ though, there's too much PR and Hype going around for it to all center around one guy anymore.

Adam 07-22-2005 02:16 PM

I think as long as this kid stays healthy he will be a super star in the NHL, he has alot of talent and now with the new NHL with the more open concept with all the rule changes and the faster game and everything, hes going to be a serious force in that league, everything seems to be coming together, and out of this strike will come something good........we will have the game we love only better and its going to be very exciting to see how it all works out and to see crosby play!

What 2 years would that be?

Dollarmansteve 07-22-2005 02:28 PM

Let's just say this. Brad Richards was also a scoring machine in the Q (just go look at his stats...) and entered the league without a ton of hype. And who won the Conn Smythe last yr? I think Sidney will be great, but it will take time. longevity and consistency are the true hallmarks of greatness.

Babagirls 07-22-2005 02:41 PM

yay for my hometown :thumbsup

Injuries and stupidity may play a factor, but if he doesn't make it to the top, it won't be for lack of talent.

I've seen him play many a time. The Halifax Mooseheads vs. Rimouski Oceanic were always some of the best games, and almost invariably Rimouski won when Crosby was playing. The kid lives about 5 miles or so away from where I'm sitting, in fact (Coal Harbor, NS), and we're all a little bummed around here that we're not going to be able to see him play on our ice any more. Maybe the Moose will have a chance to win again now though. :winkwink:

Believe the hype. It's real. He's got the speed, no fear over taking or giving a hit, can shoot like a madman, tenacious when in the zone and not above being a playmaker for his teammates if he can't take the shot. Pairing him up with a master of the craft like Lemieux and put him on a solid offensive line and the penguins WILL be a serious threat on offense.

In fact, I'm declaring today that the Penguins within 2 years will not only make it to the playoffs, but win at least the first round (barring any unforseen medical conditions or other nonsense that would disable Crosby's contribution to his new team).

Someone suggested that it could make the pens a 'worst to first' team. I don't think they'll get there first year... it took even the greatest players (lemieux, gretzsky, etc) a year or two to get fully in gear, but I could easily see it happening with some dedicated training and support from fans and the city.

Lemieux scored on his first shift, Gretzky tied for the scoring race in his first season...

but I see your point. Crosby won't win the scoring title this year, but if they get Malkin here - a line of Crosby, Lemieux and the Russian will be a serious force. Who knows?

Doctor Dre 07-22-2005 09:07 PM

Damn I wish he would have went to tampa ... would have made a kickass team

Tampa already kicks ass. They are the defending champs.

Spunky 07-22-2005 10:43 PM

Crosby is just over hyped..time will tell and Free Bertuzzi!

xxxdesign-net 07-22-2005 10:53 PM

Lemieux started to play in the NHL at 19.. as well as Gretzky... Dont expect Crosby to be a star before at least another year or 2 ...

4Pics 07-23-2005 12:20 AM

this sucks, now they can keep him for a few years then offload him like they did to all the other stars.

the new CBA will make Pittsburgh able to afford him

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 07-23-2005 12:35 AM

The best thing to happen to hockey is getting rid of ties...bring on the shoot-outs.

This should help get rid of teams sitting on a one goal lead in the third period. Much better to win a game outright, then to risk going into a shoot-out.

Drop the puck already and let's get things started...

GO SHARKS!!!

The new CBA will also make Crosby a free agent at 27 (unless I'm mistaken) where he'll end up signing with one of the rich clubs.

Vitasoy 07-23-2005 01:14 AM

Him under the wing of Mario should do him good.

xclusive 07-23-2005 04:24 AM

awesome news and while my bruins didn't do so well it will be good to see them back on the ice

With this new agreement are there aren't any more "rich" clubs. There's a cap and the top 10 "rich" clubs have to give the bottom 10 "poor" clubs money. Not only is there a cap but teams can only give up to 20% of it cap to one player.

They won't be pairing up crosby and malkin together cause they're both centers... and is malkin coming over this year?
