Just ordered my new Dell

Just finished up ordering my new Dell.

Dimension 9100

3 Ghz Dual Core Processor
GeForce 6800 256mb Video
19" Digital Flat Panel

And a lil Axim X50

What y'all think?

Robx 07-22-2005 12:19 PM

Looks nice. I'm not too sure if I like the new cases though. I haven't seen one in person yet.

The specs look pretty good though. Personally, I'd ditch the Axim and get a Blackberry.

munki 07-22-2005 12:21 PM

Got a blackberry, annoy's the shit out of me honestly... really just need something to take notes in class with....

Rinaldo 07-22-2005 12:22 PM

Dell's warranty is teh best, its honestly worth every penny just for that...

koreanbbque 07-22-2005 12:23 PM

that's a hot computer! wish i had the cash to get a new comp too.

wedouglas 07-22-2005 12:24 PM

i build my own. was dual core really neccessary for what you do? you should look into the benchmarks if you havent already.im partially to AMD myself. pentium and their silly 100Ghz marketing scheme cpu's hehe

munki 07-22-2005 12:26 PM

Video editing... heavy graphic's... dual core benchmarks made sense over the single for my applications... My 2nd backup comp is running an AMD... does very well with raw graphics, but video editing, and sound mixing goes to hell.

Anyways, Dual core CPU are the next CPU gen, heavy or lite users, just buy dual core, and leave the old technology on the shelves :2 cents:

Nice little machine :arcadefre Dell warranty rocks :thumbsup

Sparks 07-22-2005 12:31 PM

Damn, that should be nice. I have 3 Dell's right now and love em'.

munki 07-22-2005 12:31 PM

Extra cost's didn't make sense at this time... I'm dropping a lot of mainstream contracts while I'm going back to school.

I'm pretty stoked so far... this is my first Dell, I'm hoping it lives up to the hype. I've done Gateways, and custom builts up till now...

Here's to hoping :pimp

Ahh - yeah. Blackberries suck for taking notes but are great for e-mail, ICQ, MSN, Phone, etc, etc.

I used a Palm with a fold out keyboard and attached digital voice recorder for taking notes in school. It rocked. I was able to grab some notes and not worry about missing something because I'd attach the lecture to my notes when I archived everything on my computer.

When I'd teach, I would always start the semester by telling people where they could download a copy of the lecture along with any demo's / overheads and encourage students to use a good old pencil and paper rather then a keyboard. I always thought that there was value in being able to scribble rough notes and diagrams without being worried about missing anything.

not ture. while they will definately be the next thing, theres no point in spending extra on something that may give you less performance in todays applications. there is a lot of optimization to be done to take full advantage of having dual cores, and many apps simply dont make good use of it. in fact, they have less performance in games etc. if youre dealing with my apps at once they may work well, but if youre using just something like 3dsmax or maya, you may want a normal 64bit chip

sickkittens 07-22-2005 12:37 PM

Do all Dell fans suck ass or is it just me?

munki 07-22-2005 12:40 PM

I personally do not suck ass... I might lick it a lil... but sucking... not a big fan.

Robx 07-22-2005 12:42 PM

In the office here, we have 11 Dells. They all work great.

Jim_Gunn 07-22-2005 12:43 PM

Nice, I own a few Dell pcs. A dual-core system like that will be my next video editing and encoding system. How much did it cost in total as you configured it?

munki 07-22-2005 12:46 PM

My total cost was just under 1900 with the Axim
