PC v.s. MAC

Ok here it is all my fellow geeks & porn distributers.

The fucking Poll of the century.

Which do you use as your everyday Computer?

Za Ha 01-29-2002 08:40 AM

PC is kicking ass...

:ak47: MAC

pr0 01-29-2002 08:41 AM

If your not doing heavy graphics & you own a mac......you are TRENDY :)

12clicks 01-29-2002 08:49 AM

as I've said before, I use a mac at work. for catching cheaters there is nothing like it. Never have my bookmarks changed, search function changed, viruses downloaded, doesn't recognize .exe, etc.

its perfect for surfing the sites of thieves. ;)

at home I sit on my couch with a sony vaio with a wireless network. (my mac in my office at the house now never gets turned on)

should I be voting mac or pc? ;)

I love Apple machines.

I am writing this on an iBook with the new Unix-based Mac OS X (pronounced "ten")
I also have a double processor tower G4 mac with an Apple 22 inch flat display. That one is still running Mac OS 9 because Adobe is slow about finalizing Photoshop and Golive for OS X.

domald 01-29-2002 03:59 PM

All right, the above was my first post.

Question... where does the tagline under the handle come from? Are these just small random jokes built into the system?

At least you explored your settings in your profile before asking! Some people don't look in the PROFILE SETTINGS before asking questions!
I mean other people, not you.

Just ordered my dual 1 GHZ, 1.5 gigoram, SCSI drives, 64Meg Nvidia4 video card and DVD-Ram/ROM.

heheh dual's sweet.. i had a dual 1GHZ P3 but anything outside of photoshop and 3dsmax just doesn't benefit from it.. and even with proggies that can use both, it's not a linear performance progression..... i went from a dual 1GHZ P3 with an ELSA gloria DCC (kickass! - workstation version of the geforce 3 - 3dsmax routines hardcoded into it.) to a 1.4GHZ p4... and within the next week or so (my place got broken into and cleared out) im going to get a 1.8GHZ athlon (which kick the ass out of most any p4's) 1.5 Gig ram + geforce 3.. only sticking point is whether to get a 21" monitor like i have at work (they're so fucking kickass i can't do without it) but i didn't have insaurance on the shit that was stolen so im heaps out of pocket and may have to make do with the 17" the thieves thoughtfully left me for a while yet..

bhutocracy 01-29-2002 07:57 PM

oh yeah macs are useless. :)... well.. i don't see the point in getting one.. it's really a personal preference as they do all the same shit..and they've come down in price a fair bit.. but after lecturing at design colleges in rooms full of the little blue bastards .. and here at work.. well.. i've heard enough of the "binnnngggg" crash/restarts to last me a lifetime..

Fletch XXX 01-29-2002 08:04 PM

For graphics and digital audio, there is but one choice, Apple. ProTools on a dual G4 will blow anything triple times the specs on PC away, as well as graphics programs, and I have heard that the new Mac servers are really hard to beat, but old time programmers are to hung up on Unix and such, and rightfully so.

For business and freeware of course PC, but the fact is Apple is not designed for consumer level users.

The G4 is considered a Supercomputer and not consumer level equipment, which is why there is less hacked software available.

Most graphics on day to day things are all mac, such as the CD covers you see everywhere, as well as the music you listen to, Mac is used in ALL TOP graphics departments in major Universities, even (Kinkos)as well as in ALL professional level recording studios. And in regards to the comment of "Mac being dificult above" Apple sponsors most learning facilities in the US as well as other countries. The GUI is designed for easier (less command Line) interface, if Kids can use em, cant we?

Most people knock Mac because they can't afford it, or can't download all the freeware, any professional knows the difference and needn't argue the matter.

Needless to say, I own 2 Macs and 6 PC's.

Fletch:thumbsup

lol i think you are refering to the imac i have a G4 and don't do much graphics i use it simply for processing power, this thing is a fucking beast.

I don't see anything wrong with PC's aslong as you aren't using windoze.
Linux should be stock for PC's now.

:BangBang: PC

guess yoiu've never heard of hotline protocal.

http://www.hotlinesw.com

this was developed to actually replace ftp, written by a 13 year old aussie kid, some companies started to use it because of the resume d/l option (the first ever created.

then it split into a underground/hackers/phreakers/warez/illegal porn/and even legal knowledge archives.

this community has thrived for coming up on 10 years. for you old mac users you all know thats before zelifcam.

and interpol can't shut it down because many universities have adopted the software.

OSX is built to take advantage of it. and 90% of the time I'm using photoshop and other Apps that do use em both.

I have 10 people working with me, all the ones with PC's have had from 1 day to 2 weeks of downtime because their wondows were fucked up or their crappy PC hardware died. I haven't been down for more than 20 minutes in the last 4 years. And I work exclusively on Macs, even though I do own a couple a PC's, I don't use them much since I end up spending more time fixing windows than I do getting work done.

AzteK 01-29-2002 08:45 PM

I'm a die hard PC fan but I'd like to make something clear for people who don't know.

Who created SCSI? MAC
Who created FIREWIRE? MAC

MACs use RISC processors
thus, making it run faster, cooler, BUT more expensive.

PCs USE CISCs
thus, making it run not as fast, hoter, BUT less expensive.

MACs OS is based on UNIX - how much more stable can it ever get?

MACs GUI never fails!

Both PCs and MACs are good in their own ways.

all too true.

i had and old performa 550 that lasted me 6 years at home. with only a 68030 processor it was still kicking ass.

what edition of OS X do you have? server or standard?

another good note on macs is the hacking software availible. i don't mean the DoS attacks i'm talking about seeing how secure your box really is.

I know team2600 and l0pht have saved my boxs from plenty of exploits.

audio yeah.. graphics no. macs still have a monopoly on audio software the way they did on graphics software a decade ago.. G4's never impressed me a hell of a lot.. two i taught on in a college were actually quite pathetic - maybe i'd heard too much hype (which is all apple seems to be) but i was actually relishing the chance to put them through their paces.. but.. they routinely crashed.. couldn't handle decent amounts of audio.. still i think they were 1st gen.. we've got a nice one downstairs with an ICE card (sweeeeeeeeett) that flies.. but hey.. it's $50k so whats the point of comparison..

you can still buy a faster PC than a mac for the cash so theres no point talking about "triple specs" as they don't mean a hell of a lot nowadays to compare GHZ speeds between intel, mac, and AMD...

macs are still considered the graphics machines today not through any inherent quality but just because the guys in charge of the design institutions today ALL LEARNT ON MACS!.. there is no real difference between the machines.. it's more about personal preference, and what you've been taught on.. mac's dominance in the field is just the flow on effect from originally being THE graphics machine.. In TOP graphics agencies you should get the choice of which platform to use... nothing like fascist MAC users at uni to make you want to push a blue bit of plastic from a high window onto them.. :)

thank christ OSX has FINALLY come out and is dealing with a lot of my main problems with them (pathetic memory managment etc)

yeah.. so does NT and win2k.. it's not so much about the OS as the individual program.. OSX doesn't mean a thing if the proggies your using doesn't facilitate it.. to be honest it just didn't seem like the best thing for me to be running at half power for all the other programs i use.. of course price was a consideration.. i had a finite budget. if you're going to get a top of the line dual system its a fucking moot point :)

it's funny how our experiences have been so diametrically opposed.. the 4 PC users here have NEVER had an issue.. but the 5 (hey IT cutbacks ok :)) mac users are CONSTANTLY crashing.. what ONE program goes down and takes THE WHOLE SYSTEM??? nice one OS9!! :) not to mention my students who routinely have to sit in with other students when they've just lost the last half hours worth of work at the end of a lesson..

Jamdin 01-29-2002 09:50 PM

I love apples too...apple cider, apple juice, apple pie, apple marmalade, shrunken apple heads, Johnny Appleseed :Graucho
