Found a kitten

Today while outside in the garden I found a small black kitten. It is very friendly, looks about 6-8 weeks old, with no fleas. I know it is not any of the neighbors already. Yet it seems it was cared for. There was no others anywhere on my property.
It was damn hot out, so I gave it some water and some tuna. It ate and drank. Now what in the hell am I supposed to do. The thing has like adopted me.
:Oh crap

Thomas1007 07-20-2005 01:31 PM

#1. keep it
#2. call the spca
:thumbsup

LittleSassy 07-20-2005 01:31 PM

awwww...that was kind of you...maybe he wants you to be his new owner;)

cats choose their can openers by themselves - you're stuck with her :2 cents:

websiex 07-20-2005 01:34 PM

Take it far away and drop it off and/or kill it, or keep it. :2 cents:

BTW: SPCA = death too, so you might as well not even waste your gas taking it there and just spend the $.13 on the .22 bullet.

Stallion 07-20-2005 01:35 PM

Yep looks like you are stuck with the kitten.. You have already bonded.. lol

After Shock Media 07-20-2005 01:35 PM

ack this is annoying.
It has remained on either my lap or shoulder now for the last 30-40 minutes.
Fairly cute solid black little thing. Latter I will get a pick when the fiance gets home.

Ahh crap I gotta decide and do something before she gets home. She will keep it I just know it. It is to cute and cuddly. The thing does not even use its claws when its walking up or down your chest, or when you pick it up off of your shirt.

C-Bass 07-20-2005 01:36 PM

post pictures!!!

My camera is with the fiance right now. Best thing I could do would be to press it against the flatbed scanner. Something tells me though that I should not do that.

RuthB 07-20-2005 01:39 PM

give it a name.. that's what you need to do.. and look forward to the next 15-20 years as it's buddy/provider/primary caregiver.. cats are worth it, they're little bundles of fun, but if you can't take care of it, then you could always put up flyers/msg in the newspaper about finding it, or that it's free to a good home

Whatever you decide, good luck! Oh, and don't give it milk - that can give it really bad 'runs' :winkwink: - and if you ARE keeping it, you should definitely get some kitten food cos tuna might be too harsh on its stomach right now, ALSO you'll be more likely to have a fussy cat if you start it off on the 'good stuff'.. :thumbsup

cosis 07-20-2005 01:41 PM

keep it, best time to get a cat is when their kittens

I have had a cat before. I just do not keep kitty food around the house but did happen to have some tuna on hand. If I decide to keep the thing it will get some kitten food and all that stuff.

BTW when is to young for a flea collar, it does not have them now and well I hate fleas.

HpicAnn 07-20-2005 01:50 PM

Sparks 07-20-2005 02:08 PM

Oh I figured that's why you gave it tuna (have you figured out if it's a guy or a girl yet??!!) .. I didn't mean to imply you didn't know anything about taking care of cats.. I was just rambling on like I often do! :thumbsup

as for flea collar - often they suggest you wait til they're 3 months old - but you could talk to the vet about Advantage/Revolution - not sure if they have it for kittens that young, but that stuff is great, keeps the fleas off, but you have to do it once a month - thankfully with cats it's not THAT expensive.. myself, I have St Bernard dog, and she needs a LOT of that stuff each month (big $$)..

but from my knowledge (used to work in boarding kennels/cattery MANY years ago) cats shouldn't be put onto a flea collar til they're at least 12 weeks old.. oh, you also have to think about the shots they need too.. and if it's a girl you'll probly want her spayed so she doesn't get busy with all the tomcats!

damn, pets are expensive!

Dalai lama 07-20-2005 02:12 PM

You better keep it and take good care of it

flirty 07-20-2005 02:16 PM

how sweet of you ..... :)

Mr. Soul 07-20-2005 02:16 PM

Sounds cute, I'd keep it, but I'm a cat person. WEGRuth is right, start it off on the cheap dry food or it will become fussy. That way the good food becomes a treat.

loverboy 07-20-2005 02:21 PM

i just adopted 2 kittens, after their mother died a few days after birth.
now, they are banging my door every time they smell food hahaha
both are less than 2 months old

:smokin

It will be so loyal to you for taking care of it :)

Please let us know what you decided. And hey, remember, everything happens for a reason :thumbsup

abadfish 07-20-2005 08:03 PM

I thought the SPCA was no-kill? At least the one in Dallas was... A lot of shelters are no-kill unless they have to. I could never take a cat to one anyway... There is always someone that wants one.

PixeLs 07-20-2005 11:09 PM

Cute kitten. BY the way, have you guys noticed that we had several kitten threads posted on this board lately? ;)

haha. i laughed at this one..

i agree yu should give it a name, after that you'll feel like his your own, giving a name to a pet brings about the attachment between you two.
