How much do you pay for electric?

I live in NY and haven't had a bill under $300/month in the past 5 years (that I've been paying it). I have oil heat, a gas stove, gas hot water, and a gas dryer. It would probably be like $20,000 a month if all those things were electric too :1orglaugh :helpme

Napolean 07-20-2005 06:50 AM

$80-$200/month here... depends when the guy reads the meter right, lol

fuzebox 07-20-2005 06:51 AM

$22/mo CAD, although hot water and heating are free.

Maybe they do estimates every other month and that's why the bill varies? That's what they do here.

Ours is about $135 per month or so.

Tom_PM 07-20-2005 06:53 AM

Are you on NIMO or NYSEG? They both suck! They have us by the nads and they know it. Plus with the way the weather is here, it's winter then it's summer. So you go from paying to heat your house to paying to cool your house.. I'm sure my electric bill is around $200 to $300 a month, and I'm single with gas hot water heater and gas furnace.

Miss Vlasta 07-20-2005 06:54 AM

around 25$/month

Probally would be CHEAPER. My electric bills for the last 3 months barely totals $300 and I use electric everything.

I have NYSEG now... previously Central Hudson :disgust I read in the paper last year I think it was, that NY state pays on average 33% more for power than other states. Sigh :Oh crap

cool1 07-20-2005 07:00 AM

I pay around $30 CAD a month depending on how much I use

KRL 07-20-2005 07:00 AM

The worst was in California. My highest bill was close to $1,700 for the month.

Totally insane.

Tom_PM 07-20-2005 07:03 AM

Yeah NYSEG is a huge one.. all of the huge ones are a rip. I mean, check out your bill.. so much of it has nothing to do with how much power you use, it's taxes and fees and other crap. It's one reason why New York is the second most expensive state in the country to live in (California is #1 I think).

hova 07-20-2005 07:05 AM

Around 120 Euros a month, but that's for two appartments

Yep, that's true... a good portion of the bill is for fees and taxes. Same as the phone bill. I'm tired of paying fees and taxes on everything and anything, especially when we don't have a choice. You usually only have one electric or phone company to choose from (around here at least). Legal robbery.

exactly... then they finally read it right and tally up what they didnt charge you the last few months and hit you with a MUCH higher bill

Antonio 07-20-2005 09:45 AM

about $40.00 a month, but I think I turn the heater on like 3 or 4 days a year, haven't used it yet this winter ;)

chase 07-20-2005 09:57 AM

Mine runs around $100 if I don't need heat or a/c, and $200 when the heat or a/c is run all the time. It's a 1600 sq ft house, electric everything, lol, even my well has an electric pump.

yup, when Gray Davies/whatever his name is was the Gov, I was always getting charged insane amounts of money. I had a lot of months where my electric bill was over $2000.00 (living in the High Desert region, you really needed the cooling system to run about 9 months, 24/7)

thankfully I wasn't in a 9-5 job, because that would have ruined me.

same here bout $180 but more during summer due to the AC

myjah 07-20-2005 10:47 AM

Everything is electric and my highest bill was around $180 for the month.

Peaches 07-20-2005 10:48 AM

About $150 a month - everything's electric in my house. It's small (about 2300 sq ft) and because it's a log house it's pretty well insulated. My electric bills for my old house were $400-500 a month and I still had to pay gas for heating, hot water and cooking. It's SO nice to downsize :)

Penrod 07-20-2005 10:49 AM

since it is so hot and humid right now about $350-$400 per month.

lchaim 07-20-2005 10:49 AM

around 150-200 a month steady in the summer

Triple 6 07-20-2005 10:51 AM

if your with coned and hate your bill, ask for level billing if you dont already have it. If you do, and it still sucks, i recommend kleenex.

sickkittens 07-20-2005 12:47 PM

$60-$100, with a few months over $100 (hot months and XMas time)
