Domain Transfer Issue - Is this normal?

Alright!

I was just on Namecheap and I transferred a cool domain for 8.88 with a reasonable pagerank and superb traffic (according to Alexa) with 50 incoming links.
The thing is according to the whois it doesn't expire until Sept 2008.

Is this normal?

depends. sometimes they give you a free year with a tranfer. never used namecheap though
