Hi friend.

I know the answer. Thanks. It was funny, because I held a poll under some of the members, and 38% thought it was the USA who entered the space as first.

Of course the USA made the first moonlanding, with a rocket made by a guy that made the V2 for hitler.

edit:
First animal in space. Model of Laika, the bitch who became the first animal in space, inside a mock-up of Soviet Sputnik 2 spacecraft. Sputnik 2 was launched on 3 November 1957. Laika was contained within a sealed cabin with a food store and an air conditioner. Instruments transmitted data to Earth about Laika's pulse, respiration, blood pressure and heartbeat for seven days until she died when her oxygen supply ran out. The spacecraft was not designed to be recovered and it burnt up as it re- entered the atmosphere on 14 April 1958, 162 days after its launch.

you know what is better? Having a space science teacher (7th-8th grade level) teacher for a mother. I used to help her grade tests each year and there was one test where the first question was this exact question and nearly every kid answered John Glenn.

Suborital: in the 50's, Albina and Tsyganka traveled upward to the edge of Earth's atmosphere at an altitude of 53 miles, before the were ejected (yes, they survived).

LOL, when I lived in GA they had a hard time teaching the kids the National Anthem. Instead of "land of the brave" they would always sing, "land of the Braves" :1orglaugh

I would have though it may have been higher than 38%. Perhaps people are getting just a little smarter. :winkwink:
