I just witnessed a crazy old lady wreck her car

So I'm standing in line at Walgreen's and there is an old lady checking out in front of me buying at least 20 packs of cigarettes. If she is a day under 95 years old, I'd be surprised. Anyway the cashier gives her the total and the old lady just hands her a wad of cash and says can you take it from here please. The cashier does.

The old lady then just walks off out of the store leaving her cigs and change at the counter. We were all just kind of standing there not sure what was up so after 30 seconds I walked out real fast to see if she was coming back, and she was getting into her car.

So I run back in and tell them she is leaving... they go out and try to give the lady her bags and money and this old fucking lady almost runs the poor kid over, pulls out of the lot running the light and gets drilled by another car. :helpme

This lady clearly has no idea what the fuck is going on upstairs and is, well until today, driving a car... unreal. She was a little banged up and was taken off in an ambulance. Her car was fucked up.... and the kicker was the other driver was some hispanic guy driving some hunk of shit. I'd bet on no insurance. He couldn't even speak English.

I think at like age 65 they should be forced to take a drivers test again, and then retested again every 10 years.

they do that in Holland :thumbsup

abyss_al 07-16-2005 04:23 PM

alzheimer's maybe?

they should do a test with old people to allow them to drive again...

I say you have them stand about 20 feet away and throw a baseball at their head, if they can react and block it, then they can drive, if not... take their license away :2 cents:

Proof that it should be mandatory to hand in your license at a certain age

Poor old lady
alzheimer's will do that to a person.
I had an older friend in his early 80's and one day I spoke to him at 8:00am and at 10:00am he had totally lost his memory, he left his house totally naked to go to Safeway to do his shopping. (he had started to lose his memory and wander for a few months before this)
He is now in the care of the Public trusties and has no clue who he is or where he is.
He was still driving uo to this point, glad he decided to walk to Safeway, he could have killed someone.
People should be tested when they hit a certin age.

smitty2049 07-18-2005 05:47 AM

They won't test old people here because doing so would be a form of age discrimination and the AARP is a powerful group.

Why only test old people? Alot of young people can't drive worth a shit.

And wouldn't it be better to get all the illegal imigrants off the road first? They have shit cars, no insurance, broken windows, probably crappy brakes (I live in South Florida, I've seen that shit on the highways).

I think everyone should be tested every 10 years. Maybe test for high speed manuevers too, and your license gets different ratings. Try to get on a toll highway, it scans your license, if you can't drive high speed, the gate opens to let you back on the slow roads. Highways should be for experts only.

Damn that sucks no way most people over 75 should be driving

EroticySteve 07-18-2005 07:19 AM

That sounds like Florida. Drivers here are crazy. Add to the craziness old people, punk kids, and uninsured folks and you get a recipe for disaster.

They'll give anyone a license.

no, every year after 50 they need to make them get their eyes and motor response tested. i almost got killed by an 80 year old guy who drove into the side of my car, having observed me approaching no less, while i was travelling at 60 mph. my first instinct was to beat the fucker to a pulp, but then the cops came and i decided against it. i hope his insurance is now so fucken high he cant even drive a shopping cart.

PenisFace 07-18-2005 07:27 AM

The problem with old people who're still sane is that they're never in a hurry. And they forget to check their mirrors. Constantly. And they have little to no reaction time. Sometimes they forget the gas isn't the brake. Occasionally, they'll go to make a turn and turn on the windshield wipers instead of the turn signal.

Having said that, one of the best drivers I've ever seen has got to be at least 75 years old. Granted he was a proffesional race car driver back in the day...

tranza 07-18-2005 07:36 AM

That's fucked up....

Maybe your family should do something about it. My grandma is 76. She is still in perfect health, and no memory issues, but we have discussed the fact that one day we will have to cut off her driving. We already make sure she doesn't drive at night, because she does not have great night vision. Of course, she is responsible enough to not even try to.

GweedZilla 07-18-2005 08:23 AM

I've always said too that people at 60+ should be re-tested, but it is a very good point that Everybody should be tested cuz yes theirs plenty of younger people that certainly should NOT be behind a friggin wheel.
