I usually detest attempts to remake my old favorites but this I think I will like :thumbsup

I wish they would have left the Oompa Loompas the same.

It's not a remake. This movie and the 1971 version were based on a BOOK called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". The author of the book actually HATED the 1971 movie. His widow and his children APPROVED this version and this version is fact more true to the book which is where the original story came from.

In the book they were BLACK. Since they didn't want to seem racist they changed them to orange for the 1971 movie.

You are right, but he had to "rewrite" the book released in the U.S. as well. And that was before the movie.

Uh, you forgot to mention what it is specifically that you find demented about it.

Any movie involving both Tim Burton and Johnny Depp is bound to be demented. And that doesn't means it's a BAD thing.

and true, it being demented is a good thing........a subversive 'kids' movie

thats right Gator............I personally own "The Nightmare Before Xmas"........its demented and I love it.

I just got back from seeing this one. I love Burton and Depp, so I'm a bit biased...but this was a great movie.

Beetlejuice...........the good kind of demented

Halloween 3: Season of the Witch..............baaaaaad kind of demented

There are enough similarities to the 1971 film for this one to be classified as a remake. I admit I do not say that having seen the film but base it on clips of dialog I've seen nearly identical between the two. But I'm going to love the Tim Burton twist when I see it in the theater, only a couple movies a year drag me to the big screen :thumbsup

I've liked most of his movies

I saw it today. It was ok. I thought it would be alittle better as I'm a big fan of Burton and Depp.

A lot of critics are giving Depp a hard time because they think he comes off like Michael Jackson.

for those saying its demented..

ive head that johny depp bassed his character around the marilyn manson video that was a twisted version of the origional

for whatever reason.. i heard a lot of bad comments about depp.. but i think he does act pretty good.. wittty funny in some way..

Not too sure about it. Does it have all the singing and dancing that the first one had?
