"Family" group pressures FCC to fine all ABC stations that ran Live 8 for indecency

Kinda hard to believe nobody at ABC was familiar with the song :upsidedow

ABC accused of Live 8 indecency
Quote:

The Parents Television Council, which has filed numerous complaints about potentially indecent material on television, asked the Federal Communications Commission to levy a fine on ABC stations for failing to censor the July 2 performance of "Who Are You" by The Who.

The complaint was filed against the Washington, D.C., ABC affiliate WJLA, but the council asked the FCC to take action against all the ABC stations that aired the profanity, according to a spokeswoman for the organization.

"Unfortunately, one inappropriate phrase sung by one performer was initially missed and made it into the East Coast network feed," ABC said in a statement. "It was subsequently edited out of the West Coast feed."
The East got corrupted !!!! They should sue .,.. who ?? ... who ever they can sue!

These fucking family groups have way to much time on their hands.

tony286 07-15-2005 01:37 PM

Yes they have too much time to clearly hear roger daltery say who the fuck are you? You would have to know the song or listen to it a bunch of times.

Manowar 07-15-2005 01:37 PM

that council sound like a bunch of fucking losers

pr0 07-15-2005 02:10 PM

Maybe they should start worrying about the ghetto kids running crack, then moving in next door with their escalades on 22's

There are several groups working together to "clean up the airwaves". They've filed 10's of thousands of obscenity complaints all over the country (every state) and have a meeting with the Atty General this month. They've been pretty successful so far, just ask Howard Stern, CBS and ABC :helpme

They are diligently working a few legislatures that are keen on expanding the FCC decency rules to cable and satellite.

For the love of man kind, don't these people have anything better to do? I watched a lot of it...what did I miss? I only heard MaDonna say FUCK 2 times....what's with the Who and what happened. Someone needs to blast these people out of the darkages!

More such 'family' groups press, the more folks will move to other venues for their entertainment/information needs...

Network/over-the-air TV has long been so censored as to make much of the content, especially PG+ movies, unwatchable.

FUCK ... amazing how such 'family' groups can care so much about FUCK, etc and not really give a damn (for them 'darn) about starvation in Africa, global threat of AIDS, etc... those are far more serious issues that people should be focusing on - overall, Live8 was a big success in further raising awareness and funds - shame to see 'family' groups piss over those efforts with such petty fucking nonsense.

They're rather go after the rappers who talk about the violence and crack than actually try to stop the violence and crack.

Oh it's hardly petty, it's just another step in their relentless well-funded efforts. I've kept up with the main players and posted numerous links about their activities here. I need to go back and collect all that info and put it on a single page, but in the meantime this thread had plenty info to introduce you to them:

Read past the pissing match, there is more info :)

Here's one of their latest local efforts:

Group wants license Petition asks FCC denial of WSJV's permit

Quote:

The South Bend chapter of the Parents Television Council is asking the Federal Communications Commission to deny the license renewal of WSJV-TV, the local FOX television affiliate.

Mike Conway, director of the 200-member local chapter, said his group has filed a formal petition with the FCC asking that it not reissue the station's license until it rules on the 203 indecency complaints filed by local PTC members.

Okay here's my take..from a so called democratic liberal side.

This last bit of brouhaha is stupid...HOWEVER.

We have cable now. Wanna cuss..move it to cable. Wanna show titls move it to cable.

The public airwaves should be regulated and censored to some degree.

Someone brought up a point about pg movies being virtually unairable...with that in mind. I think 9pm and after "game on" so to speak.

Family time is over, for th emost part, movies should be able to air with limited interruption.

Anyway just my take on it.

cambaby 07-15-2005 07:00 PM

Yes this is all bullshit! Even Hillary Clinton is joining the bandwagon. Libs where are your friends now?

Cable Stays on the Offensive
Quote:

Several lawmakers have said they intend to rewrite the telecom act, although it's not likely to happen this year with a Supreme Court confirmation scrap brewing and various DTV deadline bills floating about. However, when telecom reform does come down the pike, it's likely to include cable regulations, given the calls on Capitol Hill for a la carte pricing and indecency standards.

99% of all complaints to the FTC come from the Parents Television Counsel
