EBAY users. Question: I made a decent size purchase.

I bought it from a user with over 3000 items sold. His rating is 99+%. This is my FIRST EBAY PURCHASE EVER. However, I have sold items.

I chose the BUY NOW option. I chose PAY NOW WITH PAYPAL. I was then directed to a page on EBAY to insert my paypay email and passord, then sent the money and it showed it as taking it from my bank account.

Immediately following, I send the seller an email and tell him that I would like to confirm the shipping address (I think I did this because the purchase is large and I am nervous).

Nevertheless, he never replied. I checked the page where the item was listed, and it said the item had been purchased via paypal.

I checked paypal this morning, and the transaction shows complete.

I am curious, what is typical ebay behavior? Should I expect him to reply?

My dad buys a lot items on ebay and says I am just nervous because this is my first purchase on ebay and that not everyone replies to your emails, they just ship it.

How long should I wait for the shipment?

Juilan 07-14-2005 12:08 PM

He should reply in 3 days at least. And you should have a tracking number you can both follow online either from USPS or United Parcel Smashers.

large sellers like that have an automated system... ive had this same experience and gotten no email reply.. but in about 8 days... 3 days longer than it should take, there it is, your package at the door..

I think you will be fine... what is it you bought?

I think he may be a big seller. I purchased an HD Digital Camera. Thing is, I got it for dirt cheap because it was the floor model and still eligible for the warranty.

Sparks 07-14-2005 12:14 PM

One thing to remember about a lot of eBay sellers is that they have jobs, families ect and often times just sell on eBay in their spare time. I would say 36-48 hours is acceptable for a reply.

If he has 3000+ feedbacks you should be fine.

bdld 07-14-2005 12:16 PM

i lot dont ever reply, they just automatically ship to the paypal confirmed address

nudecanada 07-14-2005 12:28 PM

I've bought some pretty rare stuff with the same results. I e-mail them to confirm my shipping address and to package the item safely. I almost never hear back from big sellers. But I've never had a problem yet. A seller that big will be ok.

E Guru 07-14-2005 12:30 PM

Powersellers will hardly ever reply to your email. They are often pretty hard to get in contact with. They do however, ship your item pretty fast and its usualy in good condition. When buying really pricey or unique / used items I go with the smaller ebayer(100-500 feedback)

Peaches 07-14-2005 12:30 PM

I would hardly call Leroy the blowup doll a "decent size purchase"!

When I was buying quilts, I recall they always emailed me, but this was way back when before ebay got so big and they had the power sellers.

Cory W 07-14-2005 12:33 PM

So this guy is probably a power seller?

I kind of wanted to ask why he had the cam as a floor model. Just out of curiousity if he owns a store or if he just finds deals.

One other thing, he likely would NOT mail until the paypal cleared, correct? It did that this morning.

Peaches 07-14-2005 12:35 PM

It should say something about him being a power seller in connection with his username. And no, I can't imagine he'd ship before it cleared.

sandman! 07-14-2005 01:03 PM

i dont normally bother a seller unless it be at least 10 business days and i havent got my item.

ebay sellers get 1000 stupid emails a day and alot of them dont bother replying since it would take up half their day answering questions.

Hollywood Horwitz 07-14-2005 04:22 PM

i buy on ebay alot and i would say no worries.however i had the worst experience ever on ebay buying a vintage guitar amp in whales,it got lost in the mail and when they found it,it was broken...beware of buying from international sellers..

Exactly. He's going to reply within the next 3 days (Ebay norms). Don't expect an automatic response. And you should feel safe with his feedback rating.

Sly 07-14-2005 04:28 PM

I've only bought off of eBay twice. Once I received a reply, once I didn't. They were both stores. My $250 purchase replied to me, my $30 purchase didn't.

taibo 07-14-2005 04:30 PM

before you know it, it'll be at your door.

Thanks, I get nervous.

evildick 07-14-2005 04:36 PM

Waiting on an item now myself. The guy doesn't respond to emails at all. Took him 5 days just to send me the total purchase price (needed clarification on shipping costs). Tomorrow it will be a month since I paid him, and still no item.

This guy has like 99% feedback too. Makes me wonder how he managed that, the way he seems to do business.

johndoebob 07-14-2005 04:37 PM

If you've ever sold lots of stuff you might know that it's hard to get in touch with everybody that asks a question, especially if they don't provide all the details and you're usually more concerned about shipping everything fast.

Lensman 07-14-2005 04:45 PM

You should be OK, but on cameras in particular there are some pretty NASTY sellers that fuck you around. When you check their reputation, make sure to see how many withdrawn feedbacks there are, because if there's a bunch, RUN DON'T WALK away. Rarely do sellers not have high 90s in feedbacks, it's the withdrawn feedback that tell the REAL story.

Sosa 07-14-2005 05:32 PM

I expect everything will go ok. You should receive the item in 3-5 days usually.

RogerV 07-14-2005 05:41 PM

If he has a 99% rating and 3000 items sold don't worry

mkx 07-14-2005 05:58 PM

You always have to be careful with eBay. Those high feedback accounts are what phreakers prey on to sell a bunch of high priced electronics using others accounts. An auction history check to make sure he has feedback from selling that same time of item previously would solve all worries

MicroChick 07-14-2005 06:35 PM

I have been a big buyer on ebay. There is no excuse for sellers not replying immediately. In your feedback, give him a negative reply for lousy customer service. Pathetic customer service is the reason more people don't buy on the internet.

Amazon was guilty of not giving out phone numbers and not replying to your email when they first opened their doors. Then, the competition increased and they started offering free shipping for orders over $25. I recently had a terrible experience with them when they broke up my order into three separate orders and charged me shipping on two of them. Nobody has replied to my complaints. Fuck them. They just lost a long-time loyal customer. :321GFY

Ebay is hit and miss. I have been happy with 50% of my buys, and the rest have been garbage.

Continue to email the bastard until he replies. I don't care how big of a *power seller* he is..........you deserve an immediate reply.

Rebel D 07-14-2005 08:14 PM

I buy Transformers all the time. Sellers are the slowest Mofos out there. they want there money in 3 days but send out when they feel like it.

teksonline 07-14-2005 08:26 PM

floor model? pfft, who believes anything they say......... people in electronics run certain scams, here are just a few, typically ones who go out of their way to explain the reason behind the sale is a way to spot a deal to stay away from..

1. rebates
They get the item from wholesale and remove the upc and sell the item
and then cash in the refund, they make typically 50 bucks.
you get stuck with no warranty, no box, and no support

2. Dealers reselling returned items... Typically these may be broken items
or perhaps scratched or whatnot, if your a chronic complainer, they say sorry they dont refund, and you have to go thru the MFG replacement RMA service system..
This saves them the headache of the 15% restocking fee's etc, and typically get the
same price as new item, leaving you the headache

3. Power sellers have many ebay accounts, they will sell like mad on an account, then open a new one... when they have a mass load of crap to get rid of they waste an account to sell off this junk, the neg feedback wont bother then because they
are closing that account when all junk is sold off.

4. refurbished items, older beginning models that are now crap sold as new or
whatever

Feel like your getting burned after paypal payment?
It don't hurt to file a complaint, if no communication was received
you have 30 days to do so.. I suggest you wait 10 days, this way if he is honest he sent it already..... if he isnt, it will get his ass in gear, if he does not respond to the
complaint within 10 days you get your money back no questions asked. Worst that will happen is he will send you rude email, COMPLAINT?!?!?! big deal... he wont neg feedback you unless he's a newb, cuz you can then neg feedback him...
just say you were being caution...

no matter what you bought with paypal always when making complaint, choose GOODS NOT RECIEVED< non tangilbe goods will be auto closed complaints because there is no way paypal can track or confirm product shipped

Cory W 07-22-2005 08:34 PM

Ok, the item still hasn't arrived. Reading almost all of this guy's feedback, every single person comments "super fast shipping, great communication."

Paypal was sent on July 13 (Wed). It cleared by July 15 (Fri), a mere three days later.

I saw people commenting that they recieved items the next day.

I sent another email.

How long should I wait?

Cory W 07-22-2005 08:34 PM

Lens,

Where do I find the withdrawn complaints?

I really hope I didn't make a huge mistake. It is my first purchase on EBAY, and not a small one.

stop being an ass he got your $$ a whole week ago.

not everyone ships every day and unless he said on his auction page that he ships quick assume its going to be a few days between payment and your item got shipped.
