Is it Illegal to Own Handcuffs in the US ?

becuae in Oz therte are different laws for different states

In Vic and Tas you can own them - but it's an offence to wwear them in public

In QLD they are classed as an illegal weapon (how they come up with this shit I'll never know)

So what are the laws in the US??

I am packing my bags and I want to know if I can take my cuff with me - they have been everywhere with me.

Oh - I will be in LV and LA

Thnx

Never heard of them being illegal. Each state has its own laws. Some states now require you to have a license to have body armor. Never heard anything about handcuffs.

LOL

A mate and I both skated down the main street in Melbourne with our hands cuffed behind our backs
we were wearing "skateboarding is not a crime" T shirts LMAO

A cop stopped told us and said we couldn't wear them in public
That's the first tiem I heard of it

The reason is they think drug dealers will buy them and then the police will have problems shooting them. Seems a little unfiar to me - we want to be able to shoot you - and hit skin right away...

http://www.mpt.org/newsworks/archive...e/010316.shtml

I can't remember if the one in MD passed or not. I think 5 years in prison is ridiculous. It is already illegal to shoot cops - do they really think the criminal is going to go:

"Hmm, I can get the death penalty in MD for killing a cop, but geeze 5 years for the vest - count me out."

I guess they want to be able to arrest people BEFORE they do anything bad, but I am sure most of the people with bullet proof vests that are planning on using it in shoot outs - all ready own guns illegally.

Sorry to drone on. This from the state that makes adultry a crime - but it is a $10 fine. No spitting on railroad cars either - that is $3.00 I believe. And if you open someones mail - pay up $7.00 - $3.50 to the state and $3.50 to the "victim".

Never read anything about handcuffs, but you never know.

well i was young and tried to lift some cool water or somthing from dillards then the mall police came and put cuffs on me, i broke out and they tried to catch me but i was to quick lol, i jumped in my friends car, lukily there was this old man who lived on the block who we used to buy pot from he was like 74 and he used to be a cop and he had a set of keys on him. he hooked us up and removed them. but needless to say im still banned from dillards, that was my first and last attempt at thievery. haha

I believe you're in the clear if you're using 'em for private use. But I'm pretty sure you'll have a problem if you're goin' around handcuffing people in public...they might take that as impersonating a police officer which is a no-no. BUT...if you're just gonna use 'em to handcuff people to your bed, you should be alright.

My dad used to be a private investigator & the cops wouldn't let him take his handcuffs...and more importantly his handcuff keys into the courtroom.

i once left on vacation and when i came back my parents had my handcuffs on the endtable next to thier bed, when i asked about them, they just laughed. needless o day i gave them to them.

it might be a problem with airport security

No problem with them in the US Kitty. I would suggest that you not pack them in your carry on though.

As for the body armour thing... In Oregon, you are required to have a minimum of an armed license from the DPSST in order to purchase or wear the armour.
