Erasercash check stolen

this fucking sucks, ram just informed me that my erasercash check for october was cashed (and i haven't received it)
it wasn't a lot ($500), but it represents a lot of money for me specially after the dollar devaluation here.
Did it happen to any of you, does checks get stolen and cashed normally? :(

Dammy 01-25-2002 04:37 PM

How the hell does a check written on your name get cashed in by someone else?

Eric 01-25-2002 04:39 PM

Must be something that happens on Spacedogs Island

boneprone 01-25-2002 04:40 PM

Hmmm cashin it would be hard.
I depost checks all the time that say "boneprone" on em.

Depostiing it would be easy, but cashing em at some random place would be hard.

Roberto 01-25-2002 04:42 PM

how can a check on my name got cashed, i don't have an idea, maybe they got my id number from a database (you can get one for $10 here) endorsed it, put up any signature, and there you go.
happened in spacedog's island, Argentina or somewhere between

Roberto 01-25-2002 04:58 PM

btw, i'm not trying to bash erasercash here, i love the program and i've got all the other periods checks, they were for less money so maybe my postman is selective at the time to choose what check he steals :(

spacedog 01-25-2002 05:01 PM

WOW..
I'm moving up in the world..
I got my own headquarters, then a Spacedog family, now I have an island...COOL!!:thumbsup

Theo 01-25-2002 05:03 PM

that's bad, not very people would try to do the same for $500! you must have huge balls or in serious need to take such risk.

E-van 01-25-2002 05:16 PM

I know it would be damn easy to steal one of my checks and cash it... it has happened to me b4...

Roberto :
Un saludo y mucha suerte, como esta la cosa con sus problemas politico/economicos ya ha de ser bastante dificil como para que ahora te pase esto.

Hojala y todo se resuelva pronto.

i haven't got my check too. Erasercash sux.

pr0 01-25-2002 05:37 PM

They have "check cashing" places all over the south. You buy a photo id from them, & they cash it for a 20% charge.

So if your check got cashed in the inner city of some southern town.....u know why :(

500 here are now u$s1000, oh well, postmans here make $400 a month if they're lucky and they're all day long walking around under the sun or rain, not justifying his acts but saying $500 maybe were worth it for him to buy christmas presents or something

I won't say that, maybe the postal system sux, if we had a fedex option (with a charge, of course) maybe things like this won't happen.

I know similar places, cause i cash my checks there, with my id for a 5% cut :) but yes, it should be quite easy, there are even offices that are whiling to buy anything

Bake 01-25-2002 07:33 PM

I lost one for $800.00 once just fanished I know its been cashed but theres not much you can do about it .It sucks I know but put it behind you and move on.

corvette 01-25-2002 08:02 PM

If the bank that issued the check is notified, they can start a fraud investigation...If the check was cashed, get a copy if it and see where it was cashed at...if it was cashed, then there might have been a breakdown somewhere and its possible you can get it credited to your account.

Good luck

Thanks, but i don't think that's an option, the bank is of course from the US and i would end up spending more money in international phone calls than anything else, with no guarantees of seeing a pennie of that check, maybe i'll take a look when (if) i get the december check :)

Ludedude 01-25-2002 11:45 PM

Hey spacedog...time to do something about the septic system here at HQ...the villagers down on the island are starting to complain something fierce. I did like you said...ransacked the mail and sent you the checks ;)

Roberto 01-26-2002 05:31 AM

:thumbsup
i knew it had to be the weird tourist that walked around the island preaching the natives about his linkupa god or something!

Mark the Pithy 01-26-2002 05:46 AM

Roberto, did you happen to ask the Erasercash people WHO cashed your check? Ask them what bank drew the funds.

Then bumrush that bank.

Mark the Pithy 01-26-2002 05:50 AM

Let me hear an amen for direct deposit.

Damn the lack of spellchekers.

Roberto 01-26-2002 06:13 AM

Amen, yup i did. Thanks mark.

Mark the Pithy 01-26-2002 07:13 AM

Cool Roberto, eh.

onlyreal 01-26-2002 07:18 AM

it is too easy

when you go bank do they want photocopy of your id?
no?
what they just want is your id for one time to check you are true person

if you have a friend in bank or already working in bank it is too easy

E-van 01-26-2002 08:39 AM

Maybe you could ask erasercash to put a stop payment on the dec check and issue you a new one, sent by FedEx? (you pay the $35 and you're set)

and yeah, you can steal any check, consider, for example, spacedog's ability to cash a check at any supermarket, I do a small variation of it, I cash it at a money exchange house in town, only because I get my money right away and the fee is under 2%, that saves me 21 days of waiting for my bank to clear the checks and 3% extra fee that my bank gets...

the US bank only gets a check with a signature at the back, there is no way they know who signed up that check...

with this proxy method, and a shady agent at any # of places that can cash a check and put it into their account, one wonders why this things doesn't happen every day...

Lensman 01-26-2002 08:46 AM

It's been my experience that when someone says they never got the check and we find that it's been cashed, that the webmaster forgot getting it.

Regardless, we need to get the cancelled check and look at it. That can take time.

To be honest I'm -exactly- the kind of guy that will forget getting and cashing a check. But that check was cashed on december 17th, and i know i didn't have any money this christmas, and was waiting for this check :)

yys 01-26-2002 09:37 AM

Roberto, why not set yourself up a p.o. box in the U.S.A at mailboxes etc. and have all your checks mailed to it. Then a couple times a month you could have them Fed Ex all the checks down to you.

Then you would need a US Tax ID Number.

Roberto 01-26-2002 09:58 AM

yup, and i think some or most programs don't send checks to po boxes?

Why? The checks would still be addressed to their owner in another country; the mailbox is just used to forward them. I have checks that go into a U.S. bank account and I don't need a tax id for them because I'm a Canadian citizen.

Roberto 01-26-2002 10:19 AM

ok, spam me your po box companies :D
