The Puppy died
 

To all that were concerned about my kids puppy I ran over yesterday, The vet just rang me and said the puppy died lastnight,
I dont know how I'm going to tell my kids, they'll be shattered,
I hope I can buy another one somewhere,

Man, I am sorry to hear that bro.

aussie try to buy a new one and give it to them tonight if possible. most probably the kids will forget the old one and feel happy with the new puppy unlike older people. i cant imagine myself as kid loosing a puppy..i would have gone nuts!

Tell them that puppy got better and run away from the vet and get a new one. If i were you i would not ever tell them that it died.

Double bummer since I just posted to the other message. At least it died early. There is nothing worse than having a dog for years then it dies. I've been through countless cats & dogs dying from natural and unnatural causes. The neighbor across the street still has a death warrant on his head for killing my first Siamese cat when I was 14.

Good luck with finding another pup & make sure you check under the car next time ;)

Maybe you can find a new pup that looks just like the pal you lost..
I know it's hard & maybe you don't want to lie to the kids, but maybe if you found one that looks like the other, they wont know & you'll save their sorrow..
However, you'll still be hurting inside, & I feel for you..

Go to the humane society or whatever they call it in Oz and save the life of a puppy there.

look at it as a way to teach the kids about death. give the pup a nice shoe box funeral with the popcicle stick grave marker. then, after a good day of mourning, do like penrod said and go save the life of a new pup.

Thanks everyone, I have been into town to see if I could buy a new pup but there is none for sale and unfortunately I live in the country and have limited places to buy dogs, The kids have gone to there grand parents for the day so I might take a drive to a couple of other towns to see if I can find one,

I think, as stated early, this would be a good time to teach the kids about life/death!

After the funeral, when you think the time is right...head on down to the nearest animal shelter and have the kids pick a new one out!

That is terrible AR.....there's no good way to express your sorrow and the truth to your kids. Even though the kids will be shattered, being as mature as they we're to begin with, hopefully you can rely on that again.

my dad told me when my puppy died, it made me stonger more hardended, even jaded. its never easy but i went through quite a few pups as a kid, and it never lightented up on me, but it allowed me to grow, and learn to appriciate things while they were there.

my uncle ran over gizmo in his iroc z once, its was probably the worst i can remember, maybe because i was there when it happened and i saw it happen.


ill shar another experience. once i had a dwarf rabbit, but it was handicaped and had some problem to where its head was cocked to its left side all the time and it only ran in circles. i think maybe it had a mental problem. well on my birthday i took him out of his cage and all me and my cousins where siting in a circle and he was in the middle running in his little circles, then all of a sudden his head straighted out and he ran straight, we all thought it was a miricle but he only ran two feet and droped dead. we all cried. but atleast he ran straight before he died.


also i had a larger rabbit and i would go out every night and in the morning to feed him, well one night i went out and fed him and went to bed next morning on the way to feed him i saw fur all over the ground, i went to the cage and remembered i didnt lock it back the night before, he had jumped out and gotten killed by a dog. so i followed the trail of fur through a feild and found him, i picked up his litle body and took it back to the cage and put him back in. and went inside and told my dad something got inside the cage and killed him. i felt so bad.

i dont know the reason for this post, but im feeling kinda drunk and wanted to share.

My condolences! I've had a lot of animals in my day, and some I had to try to nurse back from the brink of death, (sometimes I won, mostly I didn't) and had many that the coyotes got, and a few that lived a long life and died quietly. I would say it is harder to lose a friend you have had for years than a pup that you have only known for a short while, but it still hurts. I would tell them about it and let them grieve. We tend to shelter our kids a little too much anymore, and it is good to let them start to realize what life and death are all about early.

Hi all and thanks again, I made a deal with the kids I told them the pup died and promised I'd get another one , But the deal was I had to buy them a swimming pool and I had to put it up today, So I went bought the pool and rang a few mates we had it up in 3 1/2 hours and got my mate from the fire station over and filled it in 20 minutes, so now they have forgotten about the pup and they are outside swimming in there new pool :)

By the way with us living in the country I have never tried to hide the death of animals with my kids, because living in the country you have to deal with that sort of thing often, they have even watched me shoot dogs, cats, and even sheep, oh and 1 cow, And they understand the death side of things but they were never attached to those animals as they were either food or they had killed other animals, which if they kill stuff they get shot, but with the puppy it was there own pet which puts it in a different catagory ,

I would just like to thank all you guys for your kind words and sympathy, You guys are great (and by the way Spacedog I'm sorry for being such an arsehole to you all the time. TRUCE!!)

well aussie, i didn't know you lived in the country. you're right. critters die a lot out there for one reason or another. my mom was never very friendly to pets we had and once asked her why. she said it was because she was raised on a farm and animals just didn't last long. nevertheless, i'm glad your kids got a pool and that things are better. wanna come to texas and set me up with a pool? :)

I had a rabbit once. When I was 7. It froze to death though. I think the fact that it was housed in a wire cage outside during the (upstate NY) winter might have been a contributing factor.

Pisses me off when I see people "house" pets outside during winter (or even year long when they should be socializing with family indoors) because "they are wild animal at heart".

My childhood pet dog also died in the cold of winter. Though she (golden retriever) died at 10+ years and of old age canine cancer. Atleast her last breath was of fresh air... *sob* *sob* fuck you ^R3K^ for bringing up the the subject *sob* *waaaahhaaahhaaa* heh

i had a hawk that died :( and yes,it lived in the city in a backyard!

I rescued my dog from a life of crime (if knocking over garbage cans for food is a crime, that is). She was born on the street and we got her when she was 4, she was like... 15 pounds, so we fattened her up (she's like 115 lbs now)... She is kind of stupid, but totally loveable.

Sorry to hear that. I remember when my dog was run over by a car when I was a kid, it was devestating.
