I just got back from riding the London Underground
and a bus and a regular commuter train (I had to to get to the tube). It just felt like the right thing to do on the first buisness day back. The free Metro paper had a big advert in it thanking people for using public transport today. Not only an act of defiance but because I figured the longer I went without getting on central London transport the more I would make excuses not to in the future.
Things were a bit emptier than they normally would be at those times of day. A bit like people that didn't need to go in on buisness weren't going in ( I went in mid day) but there were enough people for it to feel comfortable. :321GFY terrorists. |
were you nervous?
|
Good for you :)

To be honest, I wasn't. I was very aware and people looked at each other a lot more than they normall do but it wasn't too bad. The Underground is usually a place where people don't talk very loudly at all and never to strangers. |
Your chances of being killed in a terrorist attack are about as much as being struck by lightning or winning the lottery. Can't run your life around those either :winkwink:
|
Fuck Terrorists. If now decide to not use any public transport anymore, please also stop using cars, airplanes, trashcans, going to a world trade center, going to theatres and schools.
|
My best friend works and lives there. He had to ride the tube the next day too, like everyone else. It sucks what happened but staying away and avoiding public transport is just what they wanted... still its fucked up

:thumbsup

It would have been better if you had a pic.

You know, it is never really a good idea to be seen taking pics inside a tube station..much less now. |
I havnt had to do it yet...... I think it will be uncomfortable rather than scary.
My mother had to use the number 30 (the bus route that got bombed) today to get to work because her tube line was still down. I dont think she enjoyed that much. |

Any kind of extra security?

should I post on gfy when I take the bus?

That would be an improvement over most of your posts. |

well, I really am sorry you live with such events on such a normal basis but today was a fairly important day to those of us that live and work in London. Thanks for your support. |
strange feeling
hope it relaxes |
I admire your courage sarah.. just like any other tragic incident.. life must goes on.. i have relatives living in london.. i haven't heard from them hopefully they are fine..

The real courage is those that were actually on the bus or tubes that get back on the system but thanks. |

I dont think it will be long until things are back to normal. I used to live in london for quite a few years. Its not unusual to get a bomb scare and have to sit outside the tube untill you get the all clear. We've also had all the bullshit IRA bombings for long enough too.
I dont think these terrorists realise just how resilient Londoners are |
Life goes on.
Excuse me for my ignorance, but what the hell is a tube? |

Okay, I will bite . . . how come? |

Seriously? |
In the context these British folk are using, I have no idea what a tube is. A subway?
|

tube = metro = subway= underground.
Just got off one.......damn was it hot down there......... they need aircon badly! |

Still have more chance being run over by a car by not taking the tube in london. So fuck all the terrorist scum.
But apparantly they are still at large in London somewhere |

and it's not like londoners need any more excuses to look at you funny on the tube anyway

Prior to the bombings they would think you are a terrorist as opposed to a tourist if you took pictures inside a tube station? Must be a very paranoid culture. :2 cents: |
Quote:
I don't think it's paranoid really, more realistic. Terror attacks on the london undergound where just a matter of time. |

same goes for NYC's subs god forbid they fuck with grand central, that place is soooo beautiful |

Security...it is like that in some offical buildings and airports in the States too. My dad taught me that as a kid never to take pics of places of security becaue it is often looked at badly. |
