Any of your friends run a hotel? Is it a good business?

Does it have a better ROI than just an apartment building?

If you want to make money in that feild buy out appartments that are used as short stay places. I dont know if you have them in the US. Do a search on google for Nell Gywn House, Sloane Avenue. All the hookers use these and pay £150 per day. The mortgage repayments would be £900 per month on a 100% over 20 years mortgage.

probably if you know what you're doing, but its a whole different business and lots and lots more work.

Do you mean like a vacation destination hotel or like a slum-landlord-projects hotel?

Well I spent two years researching and writing a business plan for a small vacation destination hotel in Costa Rica. I could probably answer some specific questions, but I've never been an apartment landlord so I couldn't tell you the real differences.

Hotels are not about hotels - they are real estate :-) Accomodation is OK, but food is a pain in the ass.

Buy a few fields on the edge of any city - plenty space to keep competition miles away and build a hotel. That covers all costs of the land which just increases in value and also makes a profit if ya work at it.

Then you do a "webmaster" and repeat the operation :-) I have a friend who does exactly that and with two brothers, now own over 350-400 international hotels - but the real estate value is more than God ever heard of and they don't owe any banks a dime.
