Was June a rough month for many, many companies?

So many companies missed payments, are dodging payment requests or keep telling us half truthes about paying us.. Are you guys hurting? I'm not going to name names, so don't be a drama whore. I'm just curious why all of a sudden, 18 companies decided they couldn't pay LadyM and myself on time?

LadyMischief 07-09-2005 12:43 PM

Yeah no kidding.

Sly 07-09-2005 12:44 PM

I haven't had a problem with payments I don't think, conversions are a different story. Unless you're referring to business outside of affiliate work.

We don't promote anything, we're talking about B2B.

WiredGuy 07-09-2005 12:46 PM

Are we talking affiliate checks, design work, or something else?

Design work, video editing, etc.

Peaches 07-09-2005 12:50 PM

I would SUSPECT (and this is purely speculation) that some smaller sponsors/gallery submitters/TGPs etc. plan on closing down instead of dealing the 2257 stuff. If they don't pay their bills, that's more money in the bank for when they down. JMO.

I know for certain a few of these clients aren't planning on going anywhere..

You would be surprised, Peaches.

I am a camgirl for iFriends and they never missed a payment yet. Good luck because your wife has like 10 kids or something?

June was my second best month ever. Only May beat it (just barely).

Actually my site has set a new record almost every month since it opened about two and a half years ago, and it's tracking that way already in July too.

Life is good... :)

Are you sending invoices to these companies (paper versions, not just email)? I know some companies (myself included), tend to put off outstanding bills unless a paper invoice is remitted to my accountant. If you're not presently doing this, try it out for a month, I'm willing to bet people would pay on time better.

I am hoping you get paid your money owed to you, that's all.

My sister has 4 kids and her life sucks so I can only imagine how hard it would be with no money. :Oh crap

The Other Steve 07-09-2005 01:09 PM

I hate it when people come in and say that this month, that month and every other month has been the best they ever had because it always smacks of BS - however I have to say that Sex Story Text had a huge month in June and we've been doing work for both big guys and small guys.

Snake Doctor 07-09-2005 01:12 PM

I always pay everyone on time :winkwink:

I hear through the grapevine that the big companies are the worst offenders for paying designers, content people, hosts etc.
They all pay their affiliates on time but that's about it (from what I hear)

I know a LOT of companies had to delete alot of sites and/or pay to have alot of sites redesigned in order to comply with 2257 by June 23.....that plus buying new content to replace old non compliant content probably cost some of them a small fortune.

I hope you get every cent soon Lady M.

When did we say we had no money.. This is about respect and paying for a job done. Our life far from sucks, and my kids have everything they need. However, it's definitely not OK for so many people to feel it's ok to be late or not pay even when it's a few hundred dollars, it's prinicple as much as anything else.

Nobody said or even implied that we didn't have money. We do work for a lot of clients, it's just majorly annoying when you do work and people don't pay. We're still waiting for a very large company to settle up an invoice from 2 years ago.. This industry sucks balls for people owning up to their responsibilies and commitments is all.

Unfortunately Lenny it happens in just about every industry. There are a lot of companies that finance their future business by not paying past accounts.

Hunter_ST 07-09-2005 02:10 PM

i've had major medical centers not pay for design for many, many months... it's ok for them to be 6 months behind with me, but try to stiff the hospital...

same thing with a major power supply company we did work for -- they take months to pay, but try not paying your electric bill!

they even ignore the late fees, and act like they weren't even added to the invoice.

bastards, all of them.

As far as I'm concerned, there IS no net thirty, sixty or ninety days in this industry. It's set the payment, set the deal, pay it and do the work, deliver on time. Period.

Why is that such a hard concept to grasp?

One thing I have learned to do, jact, is to include a 'read and delivery receipt' with any email invoices, so I know the company received it.

I wish you well with your collections.

And, if nothing else works, I nag. I'm very good at that.

jact 07-10-2005 02:55 PM

One company has paid up... How about the rest of ya?

Brujah 07-10-2005 04:52 PM

I'm waiting for my unemployment check, and I need to sell some food stamps. THEN, I swear the check is in the mail.

Lots of slow paying companies during these times

It's a good thing you found a way to make money by being naked because you're way to stupid to do anything that requires talent or skills.

I know of at least one that you're talking about, I had the exact same trouble.

You're probably getting the same email games as I was with them.

Send an invoice, they respond with..."cool send an invoice and I'll send out payment."
