How do you price a website for sale?

I'm only curious, but if I wanted to sell a paysite, how much do you know to ask for it?

Say your site is making $20,000 a year and is still fairly new.

Is there a system?

Ordo 07-08-2005 10:08 PM

Anyone that knows?

I'd really appreciate the help.

:Oh crap

Spunky 07-08-2005 10:11 PM

Usually about 3 -6 months revenue depending on the niche

Ordo 07-08-2005 10:11 PM

Alrighty then, I guess I can just go fuck myself.

lol

Ordo 07-08-2005 10:12 PM

3-6 months revenue?

How much sense would that make as the seller?

I thought I remembered seeing 1-2 years before.

Maybe I'm just off.

ry0t 07-08-2005 10:20 PM

There is no real way since people will pay the price to get what they want. You've heard of 3 to 6 months or 1 to 2 years because of that reason. If you say your site is 'new' and already making 20k a year then it sounds like it has potential for a lot more and should be worth over 6 months of revenue. You just need to put it up for sale on a bid system maybe. There's a lot to consider. I wish you luck.

Ordo 07-08-2005 10:25 PM

Yeah,
I've been learning as I go with this site and it's by no means reached even half of it's potential. I'm just exploring my options really.

Spunky 07-08-2005 10:28 PM

If the site is making 20 k a year what do you think it's worth?.People sell because of desperate measures..hold on to it

mitchmako 07-08-2005 10:29 PM

Market value would be around 3 month's revenue plus any assets the company owns. That's pretty standard I think.

Sosa 07-08-2005 10:29 PM

20k year paysite? that isn't that great really. Of course unless your not putting much money into it.

Ordo 07-08-2005 10:39 PM

Well,
I started the site for $5,.000 and just put the money made back into content for the past 6 months. Some business purchases to help things like a laptop, software etc.

Overall, its still very new and hasn't been exploited fully yet. That will begin in about two months.

venus 07-08-2005 10:45 PM

my opinion is to ignore everyone's "formulas" and go with what ever YOU feel it is worth to you to sell.
the formula people like to give does not take into account the content (type of content), where traffic is from and you personally feel it is worth.

venus 07-08-2005 10:47 PM

whats the site your thinking of selling?

The Ghost 07-08-2005 11:21 PM

Curious on the site name as well, but it just sounds like you're curious about basics. And there are too many variables to guess without seeing the site. The site would also have to be 2257 compliant for most buyers to even consider it. Niche and quality of content is imporant as well as the traffic sources as venus suggested. Other considerations are rebills, average amount of time subscribers stay, amount of content and more. If you want ballpark figures, post the name. You'll be able to see some real offers.

KRL 07-08-2005 11:25 PM

It depends how the site gets traffic.

If you have natural type-in traffic that is generating the sales then you should aim for 1 to 2 years earnings and higher. Some guys are looking for 5 years now.

If its crappy traffic that can disappear quickly, you can usually turn the site over for 3 months to 12 months income.

Ordo 07-08-2005 11:30 PM

Its the site in my banner. TightFetish.com
It's a jeans fetish site, the girls aren't even naked, but the site makes money and you can't get more 2257 compliant than that lol.

A lot of my traffic is from search engines right now, a lot is also from affiliates.

Oh, average monthly uniques is 30,000. I've had 250k uniques in one month because of some of the big TGP listings I get when I submit my hosted galleries to sites.

I just bought 15 new photosets and 9 movies that are going to start filtering into the site at which point I will have 30 hosted galleries to begin using to buy monthly placements that change every day on the varied TGP sites. Then, I will be submitting each of my 30 galleries, once per day for a month. Traffic will probably hit 200k a month on average again and stay there, which is what I've been working for over the past 6 months.

Like I said, its a new site, it's already doing pretty well and stands to do a hell of a lot better soon.

Edit, I checked the stats, it hit 400,000 uniques several months ago but dropped off because I ran out of hosted galleries to submit at the time.

This puts you more in the 3-6 month category at this point. You traffic is all self generated and if you quit working it, it would close tomorrow. just my

:2 cents:

Bump to an informative thread! (Which is rare here.)

Each deal is different, but aside from the projected 3-6 month revenues don't forget how much TIME you put into the site, because that should be added into the sale price as well.

Best of luck to ya!
