Yo photographers, inside

Although i prefer to shoot outside with natural light im now finally gonna buy some lights for indoors.
Shit is Holland is twice as expensive as on the other site of the ocean. So im browsing American shops who ship to Holland which is still way cheaper.

Anyway.

Would you say theres anything wrong with this set, if so what?

imageman 07-07-2005 06:29 PM

If you shoot fast you may find the 1/2 to 4 second recycle a tad slow.

Dirty F 07-07-2005 06:31 PM

I shoot fast yes.

Juilan 07-07-2005 06:36 PM

Elinchrom and ProFoto make quite nice strobes

Dirty F 07-07-2005 06:53 PM

The 800's ?

Dirty F 07-07-2005 07:11 PM

Do you use the slave flash? As is in you use your camera flash on top of the strobes flash?

Dirty F 07-07-2005 07:21 PM

Damn, too bad the alienbee package comes with 2 umbrellas instead of softboxes.

I have two 800's and I get content that looks superb. You will want to get a wireless trigger that will fire the lights. The camera flash syncs at a different speed than the strobes, and it ends up being a totally unuseable image. The alternative is using a sync-cord which is a wire that goes from your camera to one of the lights. The 2nd light detects the 1st, and fires at the same time.

Non-Nude Sample taken with the two 800's

Anyway, you can't go wrong with these lights. They've lasted me forever and I've never had any problems with them. Their warranty basically states that if you break a light, you ship it back to them and they'll send you a new unit for super cheap. They'll even do it if you're out of warranty. When you call, the same lady answers the phone each time. They're very cool people to deal with.

Dirty F 07-07-2005 07:23 PM

But still, even compared to the bees, i see nothing wrong with my first link other than the recharge time being a little bit longer. Its cheaper, stronger lights and it comes with softboxes instead of umbrellas. Which saves me another 200 dollars for the same package.

Shooting_Manic 07-07-2005 07:24 PM

Watch the recycle time on those. They are nice sets, but pretty slow. If you are a fast shooter as you say, that amount of time will seem like an hour.

Nice way to go and you can find a nice set on Ebay im sure.

You can configure the package however you wish.

Dirty F 07-07-2005 07:28 PM

Im gonna mail them and see if they can replace the umbrellas with the softboxes for some extra $$

BillPMB 07-07-2005 07:40 PM

I use two of these with pocket wizards, works great.
http://secure.mycart.net/catalogs/ca...prodid=3553155

Primary and fill, rheostat Fstop adjustments to dial it in perfectly.

I can bang out 400 exposures on 1 charge too, so they usually last longer than the models. :)

300w is not much.

:thumbsup

Juilan 07-07-2005 08:25 PM

I also use the alien bees 800's with softboxes. Pocket wizard transmitter is essential. Would trust them way more than whatever brand is in that ebay link. :2 cents:

I love my dyna-lites, 2000 watts with 4 heads and a full wireless triggering system. They have performed flaulessly for me

It's plenty if you shoot with good glass and you know what you're doing. Who the hell wants everything Hi-Key? :321GFY

we now work with 4 elinchrom 500W flashes and a huge octobox - but of course you need large rooms and the flashes have to be adjustable in their power - the cheap ones are not (mostly). but there's surely a reason that one elinchrom flash costs more than this ebay offer with two flashes and two softboxes.

This kit at $479 is less than we pay for one Multiblitz Varilux 500, but they will find out what great value they are shooting 5+ sets of a model at speed when the light blows out and the $500 a day model tells them she still wants her money.

As for speed, other than freezing a cum shot in the air why would you want anything faster than 1/2 a second?
