There's a HUGE difference here. Google DOES NOT make you pay in order to see the content that they do not own. The sponsor in your sig charges money for people to get access to the content. Do you see the difference? If not then you're as stupid as they are.

Usenet's free. There's no charge to access newsgroups.. just like there's no charge to search for images on the web. My sponsor provides a service just like your local ATM. If someone's using a stolen ATM card, that's not the ATM's fault.

So the sponsor in your sig decided that "hey, it's free to access newgroups so why do we make money from this? lets charge people to get access to pics on newgroups that we're not allowed to use in the first place. Look at the money we'll save"

Just because access to newgroups is free it doesn't make the content on them "public domain". What the hell don't you understand about this? It's the same thing as getting access to a paysite, downloading all the content on it, making a website, uploading the content to your server and selling memberships to your site with stolen content. Whatever way you look at it, it's STOLEN content.

Sure, there are some that make money using stolen content, but does that make it ok to create a "service" that charges people to get all the stolen content they want in one place? No matter how you look at it, wether it's a service or not, they are profiting from something that does not belong to them. Ya, members of other paysites are posting the content on newsgroups but they are not making money from it. Guba is offering a service? Again, a good cover. "we're not stealing. We're offering a service for content that's already available"... Ya, for free. Don't use an ATM as a comparison.. An ATM is a service to access YOUR money. It's not there to access everyone elses money.

If GUBA offered this service for free then it would be just like browsing newgroups but they are charging money for people to get all this content. So the service they're actually offering is easy access to content? Ya, great service if YOU own the content or have the rights to use that content.

Ok, let me explain this in a way a 5 year old can understand


- pics posted on newgropus for free by people
- others browse the newgoups free and look at the pics
- all of a sudden a "company" offers a "service" that lists all the content but for a price.
- but wait, they never bought this content.. No license to use them or anything
- oh, but they are just a service.
- again, they are selling access to loads of content they are not lisenced to use

It's as bad as making thumbnail galleries using pics you do not own to promote a pay site. You profit from someone elses content when you don't have the right to do so. Just because the content is available for free on the newsgroups it doesn't make it ok for someone to offer a "service" like this and make money from someone elses work. Lucky for them I'm not a content producer.

There's tons of companys that sell access to USENET and they make millions from it. There's nothing you can do about it, it's as old as the internet itself..... :2 cents:

This is what 'guba' boils down to.. if there was no adult content on that site guba would not make money because people would not care. But there is adult content on guba and it's mostly if not always stolen content. Basically if there was no content it would not make profit. But you just don't see this or choose to ignore it.

I'm going to open a site that pulls all the MP3's off the newsgroups and sorts them through a nice GUI and charge a couple bucks a month for access.

I wonder how long it will take for me to get shut down.
