I have to get glasses???

So for the last year I was getting a little dizzy or nausea feeling every now and again. I didn't think about it much, just thought I needed to drink more water, or was low on iron or something like that. Well the other day it got real bad and I brought it up to the guys at work. All of them said, IT'S YOUR EYES! So I made an appointment with the doc yesterday and I found out that I have to get glasses. :waaaaahh I am getting old.

My eyes are great. When she was testing them she had me reading the lower line and she kept making me read the lower line, but a different line, like 6 times. I started to panic and get sad, and I asked if there was something wrong. I thought I was getting them all wrong. She didn't say anything she just said to cover the other eye. Then she did the same thing. By this time I was tearing up. She said you have GREAT eyes. I was trying to stump you once. haha

Everything is great but the problem is when I am sitting at the computer looking at my monitor and then I turn my head and look at something further away my eyes take a little longer to focus on the other object and that is what is making me dizzy. So basically OLD FUCKING AGE! I cried last night. haha So now I will be wearing glasses when ever I am in front of the computer or reading. Which isn't too bad but still, I am getting old and old women. :censored :winkwink:

What was really funny was when I was walking out of the doctors office with a cane, because of my foot, I thought, WTF is happening? I have a cane and I have to wear glasses now. It was definitely not a fun awaking. :1orglaugh

Donīt worry! You will look good with glasses. :thumbsup

You know what, I used to get this from working long hours in front of a computer. The minute I switched to an LCD monitor it more or less stopped. If you have a regular CRT monitor, then try just starring away from the monitor to an object at least 10 meters away every 15 minutes or so. That used to work too.

It is like the 20/20 rule

for every 20 minutes of staring at a computer look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

You'd be surprised how much it helps making the move from CRT to LCD. Increases productivity too, at least that's what I kept telling myself when I replaced all CRT's in my office :)

if you don't like the glasses, you can always get contacts. i've had them for about 8 years now. been thinking about getting the lasik procedure done.

well, wearing glasses really sucks.. you are lucky that you are only starting to wear glasses now.. i, on the other hand, have been wearing glasses for 9 freaking years already...hehehe.. and i can't leave without those damn glasses.. contacts are a bother to maintain so i never use them.. and it doesn't work for me.. well good luck to you loryn.. i am sure you'd still look fine with your eyeglasses.. try choosing trendy frames that would make you look young...

Contacts are for all day though. I only need these for the computer or reading not all day. It would be a pain to take them out and put them back in all the time. haha

gentmaster 07-07-2005 11:11 AM

Loryn ... chicks with sleek designer glasses are hot IMO. :thumbsup

I'd take a sexy nerd chick over a model hot babe anyday. :2 cents:

absolutely - it's a 100% legitimate request - nothing tires out your eyes quicker then looking at CRT monitors. When I used to look at one all day I couldn't focus my eyes at all when I stopped working. Also, they put out a tremendous amount of radiation while LCDs don't. :thumbsup

loverboy 07-07-2005 11:30 AM

Used to wear one but the problem with wearing glasses is that
every year, your vision get's blurred and you need to upgrade
your glasses.

Inquire also about adding some anti-reflective coating which helps
to reduce the glare that may come off of the computer screen.

:smokin

I agree, go with CRT, it reduces eye strain.

Excellent!!

No chance of a pic of you wearing ONLY your new glasses ??

I gotta ask :)

KRL 07-07-2005 11:53 AM

I got contacts starting in my 20's. Never even realized my vision was bad until a friend wearing glasses asked me if I had my eyes checked. We were looking out a high rise office view and I wasn't seeing what he was seeing in the distance.

So he said to put his glasses on for a sec. I did. And instantly saw clarity I didn't even know was possible. Everything at a distance was crystal clear.

When I put on my first contacts I couldn't believe what I had been missing for so many years with my vision.

Sorry about the situation and i'm sure that you will look great in them but try the bigger lcd first and resting your eyes every once in awhile and hopefully you won't need them.

I've worn glasses for 20 years. Not so bad I guess. I have a stigmatism, so it is a bit frustrating. But look on the positve side. When you wear glasses, you are automatically assumed to be the techie, nerd, person in the know when standing with your friends in social places. :thumbsup

Guess people just are programmed with that as a kid, the whole geek and glasses thing. So they automatically seem to think you know everything about everything. I remember when I worked in telco, I've go along with other sales people, and everytime some techie question would come up, the customer would look to me for the answer, like I was an engineer or something. Funny.

Bad parts off the top of my head.. if you live where it rains, you had better get an umbrella, or learn the duck your head technique to keep glasses dry. Also when you are having sex, they tend to get smudged.
