Am I the only one who is shocked that these terrorist attacks aren't more severe?

Lets face it, if terrorists wanted to, they have ample opportunities to cause a lot more damage than they have. 9/11 was extreme but it could have easily been a lot worse. How easy would it be for them to poison one water supply or batch of food/beverage and kill tens of thousands?

Are we just lucky or is there something I'm not seeing here? Because the way I see it, 100 suicide bombers blowing themselves up simultaneously around the US or anywhere else, would have a devastating impact and would be so easy to organize for these groups.

Sometimes I feel this is all the calm before the storm. :Oh crap

pr0 07-07-2005 07:52 AM

the feds keep a close watch on arabs.......there is no other explination

Let's all be thankful for the relatively low casualty/fatality rate (thus far). Given the close quarters and rush hour timing, it could easily be much much worse (as in hundreds dead).

pr0 07-07-2005 07:56 AM

amazing this happened so soon after the olympics chose london

it's time for london to step up security if the expect us to come over

wedouglas 07-07-2005 07:58 AM

i think you underestimate the amount of intelligence US and other target nations have. besides, terrorists are fighting a losing battle and i doubt they have nearly the funds that they used to.

also, just because some people blow themselves up willingly, doesnt mean that they all want to. im sure a lot of terrorists arent down with the whole suicide thing. :2 cents:

cjaccardi 07-07-2005 08:00 AM

I think this is horrible enough

Manowar 07-07-2005 08:01 AM

I woudl have to agree. Some times I also think, that this is just the start or plan for something worst to come. I am thankful for low casualty, but at the same time, wonder when the big one is coming like 9/11 or worse.

wedouglas 07-07-2005 08:08 AM

is this tasteless?

but you gotta be honest, im sure most of us have laughed at cruel jokes about 9/11 or bombings etc. it's not making light of the situation, but laughing helps :2 cents:

webair 07-07-2005 08:21 AM

i think we are all getting so use to them at this point...its really just a tragedy how desensitized we are

well, once it gets to the point where no one cares about these things or are just used to them, they will no longer be effective. a key goal of these random bombing is to cause shock, insecurity, and chaos. when they begin to fail to create these things they wont be a very effective means of protest (if you can call them that)

Digibucks 07-07-2005 08:27 AM

when will this terrorisms ever stop? (sigh)
this is so so sad

when the world is ruled by a handful of countries. that way it wont be called terroism, but rather plain ole' crime.

cherrylula 07-07-2005 08:30 AM

Because the news hypes everything up. Do not let them condition you!

Youll more likely die of food poisoning than a bomb so dont worry to much just yet.

precursor.

I just find the timing weird.

And stop with this negativity, worse is coming, we'd all get killed. negative thoughts never helped anyone but the bad guys

BradM 07-07-2005 08:35 AM

I am very suprised. 33 dead... I mean it could have been 3,300 just as easily. Maybe they are running out of recruits.

I think the total will be far more when counted

But that said, dont under estimate the the battle behind the scenes on terror, you would be supprised how many of these fuckers around the world are being caught.

darksoul 07-07-2005 09:16 AM

I was just talking the same thing with someone just few minutes ago.
I think their priority is to make their point and not kill people.
But ofcourse how else you'd make yourself heard if not kill some.

Its no coincidence that this happened at the same time with the G8 gathering.
And prolly the G8 knows what they want.

:/

Rochard 07-07-2005 10:08 AM

I don't think it's as easy as you think. Getting 100 suicide bombers into the US and armed takes a huge amount of effort.

ADL Colin 07-07-2005 10:12 AM

It's just a lot easier for Muslim terrorists to take a bus to Israel or Iraq and kill some people with cheap explosives. How many have any greater capability than that? Probably pretty limited.

pocketkangaroo 07-07-2005 10:16 AM

I'm not shocked they aren't bigger, and here's why.

As smart and cunning as our media likes to make these guys out to be, most are uneducated, 3rd world, fucking idiots. I know people like to watch "24" and think terrorists are like that, but they aren't. These are guys who grew up in sand huts and drank urine filled water for the first 20 years of their life.

9/11 was big because it was so unexpected. If you really think about it, it wasn't very complicated. A few box cutters and a pilot.

I think we will continue to see these kind of attacks because this is all they can do. They can't put together a military, and they can't get advanced weapons. They'll continue to build homemade bombs and talk some dumbshit into blowing himself up in the name of Allah.

smack 07-07-2005 10:30 AM

it takes years to plan and pull something the scale of 9/11. be certain, they still have many unplayed cards.

Rich 07-07-2005 10:36 AM

The worst possible attack IMO would be 200 terrorists with AK47's entering 100 different elementary schools simultaneously. They could kill 10,000 small children in a matter of minutes.

The more countries we invade or bomb, the wosre the attack we're asking for in retaliation. Terrorist attacks aren't unprovoked first strike attacks, Fox News aside.

EroticySteve 07-07-2005 10:37 AM

Yeah the scale of this is no where of that of 9/11. Thankfully that's the case. That may be an indication that it isn't Al Quaeda and perhaps a less organized group of terrorists. It's scary nonetheless. No one feels safe.
