Time is a notion conceived by man.

Google "Colliding brane cosmology"

In recent theory, time as we know it (within our universe) began when two of these branes collided, ie the big bang.

As far as we are able to comprehend, that was, is and always shall be the beginning, but in my opinion, only the beginning of one insignificant universe in an incomprehensibly vast multiverse. We'll never fucking know.

indeed, time is something that we've put on our walls, wrists and microwaves as a means of knowing when to eat, sleep, work, rest and play.

No other animal on the planet has these constraints that we place on ourselves.

If we're tired, we persists because it's not "time to go to bed".... if a lion gets tired, he lays down where he is and sleeps.

If we're hungry, we wait until "dinner time" to eat so we don't spoil our dinner or throw off our "internal clock." Other animals simply hunt out food as soon as it's needed.

We often get things done "just in time" while other animals get things done when they're done and a not a moment sooner or later.

"time flies when you're having fun" is the idea that we've "wasted time" or "lost time" or that for the most part... if we have fun, a clock somewhere has gone faster. Animals simply have fun when they want and it has no bearing on anything what so ever except that.... they feel good.

We spend 5 days a week of "work time" simply so that we can get 2 days of "relax time" where we can spend the time doing what we want.

We base our life around time... it's Thursday, 4am... should I have a drink? No, it's not the right time to have a drink. I have to wait until Friday night when it's not "work time."
Instead I should be in bed because it's "bed time."

Time is a notion created by man (so is god btw). That means time does not exist in the universe in any kind of physical sense. This type of question, "Did time have a beginning?" can have many different answers depending on whether one chooses to answer it scientifically or philosophically. Time is a construct we use to define our existence and make sense of the universe. Scientists will tell you time as we know it, started with the big bang. Philosophers will tell you there is no such thing as time, except as a construct defined by our species. They're both right.

BlueDesignStudios 07-07-2005 01:47 AM

ok now that we've answered that question, does anyone here know the purpose of life?

nick1980 07-07-2005 01:55 AM

the things we invent end up owning us.
