Trekkers: Annapurna circuit or Everest base camp?

Any of you done both of these? From what I hear Annapurna has the better scenery and the base camp trek is not that good... BUT you get to see and walk on the largest mountain on earth.

I'm doing a Nepal & Tibet trip this winter and am torn on which one to do while in Nepal. I'd like to hear your experiences.

Thanks,
DWB

If you're gonna go to the Everest Base Camp, you might as well do the whole damn mountain :glugglug

:1orglaugh Set it down and back away from the crack pipe.

First of all I don't have a cool 60k laying around to spend to get up there with the proper guide and sherpas. Even if I had it to spend, see #2.

2nd... I'm not a mountaineer. I would die on that mountain. Trekking and reaching mountain summits are not the same. Though I do have a goal of reaching a Himalayan or Andes summit one day, Everest will not be my first.

When i was living in Banff i climbed this baby right to the top...the second part there in the middle..hardest thing i've ever done in my life...i left my climbing partner about two hours from the summit and it took us about 7 hours to go down as she had sprained both her ankles from over exertion...i thought we were going to be in Readers digest or something..lol

60k? You can get it done for 15k :2 cents:

You're right about the mountaineering thing, ofcourse, but I was just kidding. I'm training for it myself, and I'm giving myself another 5 years before I actually try. Some things take good preparation :winkwink:

Where? I have not seen anything close to that low. That is very affordable and worth every penny.

I know a lot of people train for it on Mt Rainier. I was thinking about doing that sometime next year as my first summit. You do that one yet?

2010 GFY gathering... Mt Everest. :1orglaugh Last one to the top has to pay for the sherpas.

7summits.com had the Mt Everest at ?10000, and I've seen it at similar prices in quite a few places. Private sherpas make it more expensive, ofcourse, but personally I'd just feel like I "cheated" if I had one of those (the sherpa, after all, would be much more hardcore than me).

I'm planning on doing most of my training in the Alps, and later on some in the Himalayas. Ofcourse, Mt Everest isn't my ultimate goal - my big dream is some day doing K2 :winkwink:
