this sounds mad to me (naive friend)

my mate is making a website for his girlfriend, she is 17 and qualifying as a beauty therapist, fair enough, i thought this was a good idea. The design sucks, ive already told him this. Then i looked deeper, hes put her home address and mobile number in big type on a contact page, and hes planning to put a picture of her on the front page. Seems like crazyness to me, i wouldnt want to "advertise" my 17 year old girlfriend to some of the perves on the net.

Any thoughts, am i being paranoid

Evan

The Bootyologist 07-06-2005 01:32 PM

well, if she is going to have a business , she will have to advertise her name and services, and how to contact her. so no, it doesn't seem weird to me at all.

sonofsam 07-06-2005 01:32 PM

no you're absolutely right.... people are pervs and a wrong person will missuse that information eventually. It's only a matter of time

p.s. did i get this wrong? is this for a business? i thought it was her personal home page..... if its for a business... just don't put a picture up and say her age

pxxx 07-06-2005 01:32 PM

That is pure stupidity, i wouldn't do that if i was him, but it is just my 2cents.

Evil Chris 07-06-2005 01:32 PM

let him learn for himself...

Professionals usually have such info on their sites. :2 cents:

Exactly, i am afraid to put my information out there, let alone a 17 year old girl.

The Bootyologist 07-06-2005 01:33 PM

this chick wants clients who need haircuts, how else is she supposed to get them without advertising?

even if its for a business, there is no reason to put her picture up or mention her age.. that could be VERY dangerous... because if a creep gets that information he has an easy way to meet her.. he can just pretend to be a client..

RuthB 07-06-2005 01:35 PM

sure, contact info would be needed if it's a biz site, but her home address? that's a no-no - set her up with a PO Box if he's gonna help her get set up in business!

And if it's not a biz site - then that's a huge no-no, specially given how many freaks there are on the net. Nothing wrong with sharing the goods, but not the personal details. :2 cents:

she can put her contact info up, doesn't need to put her age + picture

Libertine 07-06-2005 01:35 PM

It is essential for running a business, especially in that sector. And guess what? Any random weirdo can see a girl on the street and follow her home to find out where she lives.

Yes, you are paranoid.

there are creeps who read the newspaper, listen to radio and other forms of advertising.

do these people only exist on the internet in your mind?

jawanda 07-06-2005 01:36 PM

Cell phone number is one thing, but HOME ADRESS is just retarded. No one who needs to contact her will do so by going to her home or sending her snail mail. Only psychos do that. email+phone number+ some kind of IM service and she's all set.

Wrong. People tend to trust small businesses that do not have an address on their site a lot less than those that do. People like to know who they're dealing with.

evanmorgan 07-06-2005 01:48 PM

hes taken it down, so i win, and am the best

The Bootyologist 07-06-2005 02:19 PM

with that logic, why should she do ANY advertising?

The Bootyologist 07-06-2005 02:20 PM

youve just interfered and hurt someone else's business prospects and future.

you must feel so good.

She needs her details up there to show her business is solid and reliable. I've seen a business improve its sales to customers through the site by 25% after putting the address prominently on the front page.

Also, your friend should realize that she should also promote her services through online listings and such. That's how many people find businesses these days in the first place.

Are you kidding? Is it even the kind of business where people will ever need to come to her house? Tell her to get a PO Box if she really needs an address on there ... or an office outside of the house. Home address = BAD idea.

:2 cents:

Bob_cougar 07-07-2005 01:44 AM

maybe his girlfriend likes that too.

alec 07-07-2005 01:44 AM

Well that's for him to know what does he after for?
