Vegetarian type people and other healthy eaters

I need the help of those of you that eat tofu (and yes, I know all the jokes about my friend Tofu that could be made here). I have two packs of it in the fridge but I never really manage to do anything decent with it. Anyone have any good Tofu recipes that they can actually vouch for?

I think Quorn is easier to disguise as meat, although I could be wrong. Whenever I've had tofu in the past it always needed something spicy to make me forget it doesn't taste of anything.

My advice to you would be to wire your jaw shut.

Kiana cooked me a 'nice' Quorn Curry the other day, When I say nice I mean that source was, the Quorn however nearly made be vomit.

I'll see if I can get her to post the recipe

I had this wonderful Ginger tofu recipe, it was sooo good my friend gave it to me. it was a family recipe I am still searching my house for it.

I like to make tofu scramble and put it in breakfast burritos, tofu, olive oil, spinach, pine nuts, any other spices or veggies you like. Just get the extra firm kind and break it up and put it in a frying pan with some olive oil and cook away.

I highly suggest any ginger tofu recipe with ginger, soy sauce, sesame seed oil, thai chili sauce and some other things, you cut up the tofu in squares cover it in the sauce and then bake it and serve over rice with whatever else.

I eat meat and stuff too I just really like cooking with different stuff. Hopefully one day I will find that recipe

I don't need it to taste like meat..just not like vomit..i have liked it in the past but usually it was fried or something and that doesn't really fit in with the type of eating I am trying to do

It is fairly easy to hide in a chili or curry recipe.

Ok.. vegetarian I aint...
but I am one heluva chef..

I like to use Tofu as fill in my stirfry..

Prepare it in small cubes... about 3/8" diameter.

Slice and dice your vegies... then lets get the wok hot...
Remember... Hot Wok.. Cold Oil (secret to keeping food from stickin in wok)

stir fry your thin sliced meats in sauces and oils and add the tofu to meat portion in wok with seasonings when the meat is about 75% cooked and continue to stir... The tofu cubes will take the color and flavor of the meat/seasonings. Add vegies now and finish stiring... Vwalla.. Tasty morsels... !!

This way.. you will not only cope with tofu... you might even like it !!

Tofu Fingers

Marinate it first like you would chicken for a few hours. Cut it into finger sized strips and marinate it with some orange juice, soy sauce and balsamic vinegar or whatever you like to marinate with.

Throw the tofu fingers into a shake and bake bag and coat them with crumbs.

Then fry them up like chicken fingers and serve.

mmmmm tasty tofu fingers.

It's ALL about the marinating. Most people who have tried tofu just cook it white. That's nasty :)

LittleSassy 07-06-2005 12:30 PM

we just cut them into 2 then fry em...then dip em with mixed soy sauce and vinegar with onioins and garlic:)

Quick and dirty:

Cut into 1/2 inch thick slices, dip into soy sauce and fry in a little oil until golden brown.

Why don't you visit soymilkmaker.com? They offer lots of tofu recipes there.
As of now, the best thing to do on that two pieces of tofu is to fry them, make a chilly hot sauce, and enjoy an afternoon tofu snack..

naugthygUrL 07-07-2005 01:17 AM

i never liked tofu, but im a bit vegetarian..

You can try Tofu Pad Thai. Just replace the chicken with Tofu. Fry the tofu first to get a firm consistency then mix with Pad Thai. YUMMY!

they tend to have more experience with Tofu

Being vegetarian does not equate to being a healthy eater, you follower. Not that hamburger-gurgling fatso waste bins are any better, of course. The thing that you both fail to realize is that we are omnivores, and have evolved more or less dependent on having a varied diet in order to maintain optimal health.

okay...read what I said. People tend to eat tofu either because they are a vegetarian or as a healthy food. I am an omnivore but I just want to eat less meat and try new foods.

i'm a pescatarian(i eat fish but thats it) for 13 years and i'm a hella good chef.
anyways, tofu is easy if ya have a good sauce,do ya have a trader joes nearby?
get the cubano sauce or the soyvey sauce, then fry some small peices, i would then serve over pasta or make a burrito, just some ideas..

TheJimmy 07-07-2005 04:59 PM

The way I like tofu best was/is in some sort of very hot/spicey soup dish, ie kimchee chigae, or some spicey hot fish/veggie soup dish...

:thumbsup
