Software to reduce thumb filesize?
I'm using photoshop now to touch-up 90x120 thumbs and they are ~15-19KB each. This is saving them at level 8 quality.
I've seen other sites with higher quality thumbs but much smaller filesize. Is there any other software that can compress thumbs better while retaining quality? |
you might be able to get better results by going to "save for web" instead of just saving as jpeg....

What he said. Should be able to accomplish what you are looking for. I only use P.S. for all my image editing stuff, so I am not familar with other progs. But I haven't noticed a huge difference (in quality) when I take it from 8 to 7 (or even 5), or smaller. There is a small difference, but nothing I get worried about. I have to do this for some of the TGP galleries thumbnails because your shit has to load fast, or some of the sites will not list you. :pimp |
My all time fav app, especially for doin this in bulk is xat.com's image optimizer. Been using it for a few years now. I believe they have a trial download you can check out.

'Save for web' was exactly what I needed. The complete page is now 1/3 of what it was and thumbs look the same. Thanks!
GweedZilla - Thanks for the recommendation. I should be ok now, but I'll still take a look. :) |
