Have any of you ever brought family into the biz?

I'm talking brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers.... not wifes and the such.

I think I may have made an error.

Actually this was back in 97-98.
Could of worked but he did not like the return of investment based on the time spent.

Awesome. Your mom rocks and I cant wait to see that little guy of yours taking the helm. :) His 18th birthday is going to be one hell of an eye opener for sure. If not sooner, by default.

I hate it but family and biz don't mix well IMO.

My Wife works in the biz, and we were only dating when she started. But other than that, no.

Funny how that works. Mine would have worked out also, but instead of the 100.00 an hour I offered, he wanted 200.00, with no experience and me doing all the work. Everyones an expert these days... shit, what do I know?

This is HIGHLY CLASSIFIED!

Darkhorse 07-04-2005 08:30 PM

My brother got me into the biz a few years back.

Babagirls 07-04-2005 09:32 PM

i did a mainstream site with my sister. i did the web building/maintance, she gave me info for each page to put up, and we're 50/50. i actually regret it to be honest. i could have done it by myself & got 100% of the income from it.

i'll never make that mistake again.

Don't Do It!

Don't Do It!

Don't Do It!

Don't Do It!

Don't Do It!

Don't Do It!

Don't Do It!

I did it and didn't talk to my brother for over 10 years. We just finally started talking again. Not actually talking, but at least we're e-mailing each other to try to get back on speaking terms one day.

Yes...................my oldest son brought me into the biz. When we were out together on errands, he was giving me directions on which route to drive. He kept pointing out all the porn joints here in Porn Valley......Red Light District, Juicy, Exquisite, VCA, the sex toy manufacturer and warehouse on De Soto Ave, etc. He's a heck of a PR man and salesman as well. I do a lot of the running around, picking items up, going to the P.O., posting new releases, etc. Companies still growing and making headway, (no pun intended). It's a heck of a lot better than getting shot at as a....................well, anyway, yeah Family business. :1orglaugh

same experience here as well
loaned my bro a good deal of $$ for a biz
never saw :2 cents: back and it got ugly
havent spoken in over 6 years
maybe someday it will be normal again - hard to say

my advice - dont do it

Walrus 07-04-2005 09:53 PM

Pete-KT and his father is the only one I know of for immediate family. I think anyway. I see them talking about Pete's dad over at Web Overdrive...

mrthumbs 07-04-2005 09:57 PM

Dont do it.. bound for trouble. The fact you have to 'bring' someone in means it will blow up.

Relatives always want your lifestyle. and during parties or birthdays im sure they will
ask you "hey man. teach me that.. i want to work like that too".. well.. the fact they are ASKING you just means it wasnt meant for them. Tell them that.

My sister in law wants in. So far, I've resisted. I brought my husband into this industry and my mother in law used to do some minor stuff for us; but, that's only because she lives with us...and the extent to which she did things was limited.

Not sure it's a good idea to mix family, friendship and business; although, it depends on the role they play, I think.

james_hunk 07-05-2005 05:47 PM

when issues come up, it is hard to separate business from personal feelings especially when it's your family that is concerned.. so it is better to keep them apart to stay away from having such troubles.
