Pink Patriotism

Happy 4th of July weekend! Its crazy how in the current political climate, I?m sometimes made to feel ?less patriotic? than my red state counterparts. But patriotism is not measured by the size of the flag you wave or the number of yellow ribbon stickers you have on your car. Which is why the Forth of July is an excellent time to remember what being an American is all about. Obviously it means something different to each citizen. That is part of the whole point of America. But re-read the Declaration of Independence some time. It is a ballsy piece of writing. Our nation was created by baddass free thinkers. Rabble rousers and shit-stirrers. The focus of this country is on FREEDOM. Not decency. Not family values. So I will continue to walk my pornographic path as a proud pink patriot. (In fact, I think most of the founding fathers would rather share a mug of ale with someone from GFY, than they would with most of our elected officials.) On this 4th of July weekend, I salute all those who speak up for freedom. Those who voice dissent. Those who fight for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. |
Happy holiday

happy independence day!
while most of you are out knocking back "a few" until the fireworks start, inevitably a few of you will start to puff up your chests acting like being an american also entitles you to being an ass. i can hear the testosterone now. (sorry to pin this one on the guys, but i think if i start hearing a woman puffing up her chest about how great america is for freeing *other* nations, i just stop listening to her - i will work on my sexist behaviour). being an american isn't all about going into other countries and "kicking some arab ass," as more than half of this country apparently believes, which is kinda sorta, yano... sad. but since i, myself, have lost site of what being an american *is* all about, i've chosen this year to focus on the "independence" part of indepenence day. so happy day, to every person who can think for themselves - to every person who believes it's "okay" to think for one's self, and to every person still waiting to learn that it's okay to think independently AND freely. this country was built on what? what was important to us when it was created? ...life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness... keeps popping into my mind. my pursuits for happiness involve independence, but they don't involve war, and guess what - i'm still an american! (and that's okay.) :2 cents: :thumbsup |
