Any advice for a REAL newbie?

Hello!

Have been lurking around here for quite sometime and decided at long last to get in the game. :)

Although I have a pretty good background in html and javascript, I am always looking for ways to learn more and more.

I've read where freesite building is a good way to start in order to get traffic and build respect. Others have talked about fake tgp's while others are real experts in the SEO field.

If you could give a newbie some honest to goodness advice about making money in this industry, what would you reccomend?

- cheers

galleries is a pretty good way to start in the business, pickup dreamsubmitter.com to submit them, and they can help you out getting started.

Welcome..

arealnewbie 07-04-2005 10:26 AM

To be honest, I'm not looking for easy money. I am however looking to grow every month!

Theo 07-04-2005 10:27 AM

stay away from galleries, that's the hardest start this moment

arealnewbie 07-04-2005 10:32 AM

From what I've gathered so far, the best ways to start making it in this business is:

1. continue building freesites?
2. build a fake tgp?
3. work, work and work

Am I right?

Theo 07-04-2005 10:40 AM

well not really

you said you are good with html and js

can you do your own graphics? have you built any non adult site before? any examples to share?

arealnewbie 07-04-2005 10:41 AM

Tala,

I emailed you. :winkwink:

study, study and study some more, like you're working towards a degree.

Get lots of experience - cheap - you will fuck things up, but at least they'll be cheap mistakes.

Learn who to listen to in forums/articles/publications and who to ignore. Ignore the noise. Don't listen to newbies pretending to know what they're talking about.

Study internet marketing in the mainstream like crazy, that's all you would need to know and then just tweak it for adult. Same principles.

It is NOT easy. It is NOT quick.

Do all this and you'll be way ahead of the crowd, because most people don't do this.

If you want making money online to be easy, fuck off.

If you're ready to treat it like a business and put the time in, you could be full time pretty quick - depends how quick you learn.

clickhappy 07-04-2005 10:47 AM

Every newbie tutorial Ive read say basically the same things:

1. Find a niche that turns you on and make freesites and submit them everyday and dont stop. You wont see any money for months but after a long time but after a while you'll make a lot.

2. a. Make an avs site everyday, but dont depend on the avs listing you to bring you traffic. But dont use tgp traffic either because its bad.
b. ?
c. Profit!

3. While you make your sites, optimize your pages for search engines and that brings you extra traffic after a while and extra sales.

4. Once you have some money then film your own content and the sales will fly in.

I cant think of any newbie tutorials that dont have those items as their core.

Gawdy 07-04-2005 10:49 AM

welcome, my first tip is, when you know what your doing dont share it with the competition, especially newbies ;)

No problems. Sux to be a newbie eyy? :winkwink:

arealnewbie 07-04-2005 11:17 AM

Soul Rebel - no, not really hung up on fancy graphics. :(

andy83 - thanks for the positive karma - and right back at you. :thumbsup

jjjay - solid advice! however, if you noticed in my previous post, I wasn't looking to make fast money - just wanted to get a leg up on understanding certain aspects of the biz.

Gawdy - thank you. Yours is the kind of advice that defeats the purpose of this thread.

Any seasoned webmaster out there that feels threatened by a noob, needs to give their head a shake.

I have a good friend that's a pretty good freesite builder who used to be mentored by some 'veteran' on this board. The mentor apparently got to be 'too big' for the little student and started dissing him all the time. What ended the friendship was the accusation by the mentor that the pupil was stealing his site format - a pure bullshit lie. I know the student VERY well and I know that the student would NEVER do such a thing. The student made several attempts to talk to his mentor but the mentor just shut him out completely.

To all you mentors out there: If your gonna mentor be a REAL HERO and mentor. If your only doing it to satisfy some petty whim, give it a rest. Fake Mentors/Heros need not get involved and pretend to befriend.

Thanks for the great tips to all the good natured and good intentioned adult webmasters out there. Your words of wisdom are duly noted and sincerely appreciated.

- cheers

Number 1 rule: Don't expect anyone to spoon feed you information. 95% of what you learn will come through expirence. Not some bullshit resource site tutorials no matter how convincing they may sound.
