WOW-Verizon broadband is wireless almost everywhere now

Just talked to a tech they are wiring every major city now. Orlando just got the broadband wireless. I'm getting 788k download on my laptop. Not bad at all for only $80 a month. Now I can say goodbye to hotel connections. This is much faster

Yeah but the thing about the Ver wireless is that you do not have to find a wifi signal. Anywhere your cell phone works you can connect. Plus it is more secure than wifi. I travel a lot with the kids during school breaks so it's perfect for me. I get tired of paying 10.00 a day extra in a hilton for a crappy slow ass isp.

Quick question......Are you required to sign a long term contract for their service?

Thanks. I've been researching this service a bit lately....Cingular is rumored to have a good product too.

I'll need to check on Cingular a bit more then make a decision.

Verizon is probably a company to watch.. They will soon be offering cable TV service as well.. The service will be full Fiber cable right to your house.

bits not bytes...

8 bits in every byte... 28.8kbps = 3.6KBps

I had Verizon wifi about this time last year. Had to sign a 2 year contract, but I had a 15 day trial... I cancelled after 11 days. I lived in a big suburb in Denver and could barely get a signal. I'm sure it's better now, though.

They have this digital phone service I need to get. Unlimited long distance in US and Canada for like 29.99 a month. You can even keep your same number. That is cheaper than the phone company.

Yes, as in almost a full mbps which is 1024k. The upload is about 172k. Download 788k. The bit and byte shit confuses me also. Compare this to dial up which is 56k. The tech said they can go much much faster, that they hold back for marketing purposes and will increase the speeds with their marketing campaigns.

I can't wait till we get a similar service here in Australia. Unfortunately with Telstra's damn monopoly over the market here we're hamstrung until we get real deregulated competition in.
