I can understand the desire for abbreviation for the sake of brevity, but never did get what's supposed to be cool about making stuff harder to read, using the same number of characters, but also easily decipherable... it just doesn't make sense...

I am fully aware of the "origin" of the term. But it is now used by geeks on message boards trying to be cool and "fit in" with other geeks. It's fucking stupid. Most message boards do not filter the word.

I always thought it was from typos and then just got picked up and used. I know I have accidently typed pron instead of porn before

Remember when people used to call it 'porno' in the 70s and 80s. I always prefered 'porn'.
