Floyd Mayweather
I watched the rebroadcast of the Gatti/Mayweather fight tonight and that has to be one of the best displays of pure fighting skills and talent I have seen in a long time.
Gatti looked off from the opening bell and I think that had alot to do with just how good Mayweather is. I can't remember the last time I saw hands that fast where the guy could put so much shoulder into his punches as Mayweather did. Unlike Bernard Hopkins (who pecks away from the outside and runs from incoming punches)- Mayweather will go toe to toe and that makes him much more entertaining to watch. Mayweather was an incredible class act! He didn't showboat one time. I could never get to the point that I cared much for Roy Jones (as good as he was) simply because he was such a showboater - unprofessional if you ask me. Mayweather handled his business and looked like a professional doing it! |
Mayweather is not that great..he had a fight he lost that the judges gave him..
Also, I could look good against gatti..god bless him but he has no defense.. but gatti is one of the best fighters for entertainment..he has had some DOOZIES.. |
You're right - Gatti is one of the best entertaining fighters around. Toe to toe whip your ass or get whipped fighters.
But Floyd looked really good. |
Mayweather is the best. The speed was there, and the accuracy of inflicting power punches was displayed on that fight.. Gatti is way below his skill.

I have run int floyd numerous times at the bank in Vegas and at strip clubs..
he is quite the local.. |
That was a damn good match though

Mayweather is a great boxer and picked apart Gatti but I dont think Gatti had the right game plan going in. I can never understand why punchers always try and box with boxers. I doesnt make sense. Before this fight went down I thought Gatti had a chance to upset Mayweather if he stayed on the inside, worked the body through the early rounds until Mayweather dropped his hands so Gatti could go for the knockout. Instead his game plan was to stay on the outside and circle away from Floyds power shots, trying to work the jab at an angle & take away Floyds ring generalship. This made no sense to me and as soon as I saw that Gatti was content trying to out box Mayweather it was obvious the fight was over.
Im not saying that the outcome would have been any different but Gatti's only shot to win that fight was on the inside. He never even tried to get in on him. He was content sitting on the outside and trying to work his jab, but it wasnt there because of Floyds speed. Had he gone in on Floyd from the beginning both working the body and leaning on him to help make him tire I think the fight could have been more entertaining. I mean Gatti was getting clobbered anyways so why not sell out get peppered with a few shots to get inside and then turn it into a brawl. Thats how Gatti defined his career in the first place. This fight reminded me of the the Roy Jones - John Ruiz fight when Jones fought for the heavywheight title a few years ago. Both fights made absolutely no sense. sleeves |

Gatti is a street brawler. Unfortunately for Gatti, his trainer is trying to teach hom to become a boxer, and going up against a natural boxer WITH power and speed like Mayweather, there was no other outcome but what we saw.
Gatti is an amateur boxer at best. But as a brawler, he's one of the best. I think Mayweather still beats Gatti, if Gatti goes all out like the Gatti of old, but Gatti might actually be able to get a few punches in. |
Sugar Ray was like that.
He leaped at his opponents too :thumbsup |
hey what about Ricky Hatton? Hes the best right now.

And the one thing I was most surprised about was that Mayweather looked pretty strong against Gatti. I expected him to get pushed around, but he seemed to have the power to be a force in this weight class. Hatten/Tzu was a fun fight to watch, and I think he's another entertaining fighter - but I wouldn't give him much of a chance against Mayweather. |

i don't think hatton would stand off and try and box mayweather like gatti did which was suicidal, gatti hardly landed a punch. hatton will get in close and give him plenty of rib crunching body shots, which may take him out of his stride a bit. should be an excellent fight though whoever wins. hatton to win by tko round 10 ;) |

Mayweather would destroy Hatton. Hatton/Gatti, now THAT would have been a great fight! |

i agree hatton/gatti would have been amazing although i don't think it will happen now. but if mayweather doesn't move up to welterweight then hatton will give him his hardest fight at that weight and has a better chance than any at that weight of beating him. |
Pretty Boy Floyd :thumbsup

I think Hatton/Mayweather would be more interesting than Gatti/Mayweather. Hatton fights on the inside and is known more for his rough house tactics similar to Hopkins. He wont try and box floyd, he'll go right to the inside lean on him, throw elbows and turn it into a brawl. Mayweather's a great boxer but he still hasnt prooved that he can take a punch. This is why I thought Gatti had a chance. A few strong shots to the body would slow the pace of the fight and take away Floyd's ability to use the ring. I like Mayweather but he still has a lot to prove. Tszyu did look sluggish in the Hatton fight but I wouldnt read to far into it. Hattons willingness to slug and fight dirty will cause Mayweather problems. It would be an interesting fight. I saw Mayweather fight when they brought the fights back to san francisco a few years ago, I dont recall who he went against. But I remember not being greatly impressed by him, he won the fight but he never tried to finish & the guy I cant remember his name didnt seem to be hurt by Mayweather at all.

Sharmba wasn't much, he was getting long in the tooth himself and he quit when he started getting beat up in their first fight, which is something that everyone seems to forget for some reason. His leg didn't start hurting until KT's punches started to find their mark. Don't get me wrong, I like Hatton personally and he's an exciting fighter, but he's nowhere near a prime KT's level or Mayweather. He's a mauler with high energy and a decent punch. |
caught that fight last night, gatti got the shit beat out of him
|
BY the way, may I know where these two fighters are heading now?
