Sign the ONE declaration - The Campaign to Make Poverty History - IMPORTANT
Take a few seconds and go to http://one.org/
From their site: Sign a letter to President Bush:http://www.one.org/AddMyVoice.aspx Ask for his support today at the upcoming G8 meeting for an unprecedented debt-aid-trade deal for the people in the poorest countries. Together as ONE, we can send President Bush to the G8 Summit carrying the compassion, justice and generosity of millions of Americans. Sign the One Declaration: ?WE BELIEVE that in the best American tradition of helping others help themselves, now is the time to join with other countries in a historic pact for compassion and justice to help the poorest people of the world overcome AIDS and extreme poverty. WE RECOGNIZE that a pact including such measures as fair trade, debt relief, fighting corruption and directing additional resources for basic needs ? education, health, clean water, food, and care for orphans ? would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the poorest countries, at a cost equal to just one percent more of the US budget. WE COMMIT ourselves - one person, one voice, one vote at a time - to make a better, safer world for all.? There's a bigger world out there then just the adult internet, thought I'd help get some GFY'ers support as well. Thanks |
Send'em all the aid you want, Africa will still be a hole full of AIDS, war, famine, corruption, people reproducing like rabbits, and death

What about all that tsunami relief for Asia. I wonder how much of that made it to the desperately poor and hungry? Probably less than ended up in the pockets of the corrupt goverments and already wealthy land owners. :2 cents: |
Well, it's better to try then to not try at all.
Did anyone see Snoop Dogg perform in London at Live 8? That was cool. |
bumpity bump bump

Yeah, helping them is nice, but this isn't the way. They really need to do something about the completely corrupt governments and the lack of any sort of education. Fighting AIDS in Africa is a joke. The only thing they should be doing is teaching prevention. They can't treat them fast enough down there as the last time I read about it, AIDS is spreading there faster than they can even track. Prevention is the key as the people who already have it are as good as dead. :( If they can't afford to eat, how can they afford the drugs to keep those people alive? It's fucked. Bono could sell the estimated near 1-billion net worth of U2 and not make a dent in the poverty in Africa. Africa needs changes of the most basic level. It's fucked. |

Just to clarify:
I'm not against helping Africa by any means, I just doubt that this concert, or the one 20 years ago, will do anything at all. Africa will still be corrupt, here's a nice example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Mugabe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Zimbabwe Good job totally fucking over your country! ...and people think Bush is bad... |
Can I sign it?
Even if I live in Brazil? |

I donate locally. I donate to almost every charity that contacts me. Normally I don't believe anyone should post something that should be selfless ( donating to charity ) but I have to defend myself. |
Done ;-)

I dont understand economics, but aren't we like trillions of dollars in debt? And to the worlds we have all this money to throw around solving other people's problems but not our own?
And didnt we give like a billion bucks for the Tsunami relief and they still hate Americans, say we're assholes and walk around with Osama t shirts? great. |
Haven't we already given them millions if not billions? And haven't other countries also given them millions if not billions?
I donate plenty but I donate where I can see my money doing some good. |

Yes. No amount of money will change that. Many in other countries look to the west hoping it collapses and we all die. Many other good people from other countries would love to come here and live the American dream. A nice house, a small family, a good income, and a peaceful life. >shrug< America should help it's own first, and really work on the quality of people it produces in the schools. Quality of life people! Look at China, who wants 1 billion people in the country if 900 million are illiterate and poor? I have a friend over in China right now who has been there for nearly 4 years. He's wealthy and just partying for the most part. He likes to say that outside of his city is a wasteland for dozens and dozens of miles of shack after shack after shack. I asked him if it bugged him that he lives in such luxury while merely a few miles away people live on dirt floors and share 1 chicken and a pot of mushy rice between a dozen people. He only answers on ICQ with a "LOL you get used to it, makes for cheap hookers". |
Quote:
Yup, after this worldwide concert, will we ever see 1 grain of rice? It's hard to say, there is so much corruption in Africa. |
Another hyped organization... if only the celebs appearing in their commercial would give 1% I think Africa would be ok for a while...
|
We should send more money to this guy:
